Song in VW commercial...I need to know.

I just saw a commercial during the Olympics. It is for the new Taureg or however that is spelled for Volkswagen. The car is moving through the trees and a song is playing in the background. Just guitar and a breathy vocal. The driver stops at a vista, and takes a picture. At the end of the commercial the couple in the car had the camera to an elderly woman waiting next to a bus.

I love the song. Anyone have any clue what it is or who sings it?

I mentioned in the other commercial song thread, that I like the singer's voice. I am a big folk music fan, and I really like vocals accompanied only by guitar. I have most everything Tracy Chapman puts out for example.

Anybody have a clue?

For a while VW was using Pink Moon by Nick Drake....I haven't seen the Taureg ad, but you pretty much just described that song.

I have the music to an old VW commercial on my iPod somewhere - loved the song so much, I had to find the song (which was J Ralph "One Million Miles")

I was thinking the same thing... but that seemed like a while ago they were using that.

Just found it.

The song is Ariel Ramirez performed by Richard Buckner.

Well, the song has been identified, but I still want to suggest a website for future reference: http://www.songtitle.info/

The biggest thing I think I learned tonight, is that I like Nick Drake. I just didn't know it. Cat Stevens is one of my all time favorites, and from the little snippets I can hear on Amazon, Drake has quite a few similiarities.

I love that one. When I first saw it I was thinking to myself "oh god, that's such a great song, why do they have to bastardize it on a friggin jewely commercial or some such shit". And then the swerve. Classic.

As already noted above, it's Richard Buckner, and if you're interested in picking up any of his work, may I suggest Devotion + Doubt as a starting point. His songs are usualy very sparse, just his voice and a guitar, sometimes not even much of a guitar. His style is really pretty rare, hope ya enjoy whichever album(s) ya get.

I am such a sucker for commercial songs...in my playlist:

20th Century Boy - (Mitsubishi)
Start the Commotion - (Mitsubishi)
Horn Dog - (Mitsubishi)
Ballroom Blitz - (gee, take a guess)
Connection - Elastica (latest in a makeup commercial)
Orinoco Flow - Enya (in a Crystal Light commercial YEARS ago)

The latest? Strict Machine by Goldfrapp, which I heard just once in a Gameboy Advance commercial, and sounds VERY similar to I Feel Love by Donna Summer.

I bought the Snow Patrol album after hearing one of their songs on MVP Baseball. Great album, btw.

Just the Nazi engineering and slave labor part, but not planning any rant. Just a mad face and a growl.

Was that the one the VW was driving through a city street scene with the music and actions (like the wipers) synchronized with the beat?

My favorite has been a Nike commercial with Lennon's "Instant Karma".

No the Pink Moon song is from the ad for the VW convertible where the friends are driving around at night under the moonlight, looking all mellow and relaxed and enjoying the night, then they pull up to the party they were going to and its all raucous, so they just turn around and hit the road again to enjoy the night. Some nights it's just all about the drive...
