Sab's NFL Pick'em Game

Here we go with another NFL season. Last year I did a Pick'em game for the playoffs that many seemed to have fun with, so I'll be doing it for the entire season. The rules have changed a bit.

You get 4 games per week to predict the scores of. You can pick from any game being played, except for one. Everyone must predict on the Monday Night Football game. You can pick from any of the other games for your other 3 games.

This week the MNF game is Green Bay at Carolina. Everyone must put a score prediction on this game. For the other three, pick any other NFL games. If you want to predict a Thursday game, all 4 predictions must be submitted before the game starts. For instance, the Indy vs. NE game this Thursday starts at 9 pm. If you want to predict this game, you must have your 4 picks posted by 9pm Thursday.

All picks must be made publically. At least for the regular season. When we hit the fiunal stretch (playoffs) I might consider going to PM submitting to make things more interesting. But for now, let's just do with publically (for the sake of my PM box).

Ok, now on to the scoring system.

You make a prediction

Green Bay 23
Carolina 14

For each point that you are off by, you get a point

Say the final is: Green Bay 21, Carolina 7

I was off by 2 on GB's score, and 7 on CAR's score, so I get 9 points

If you choose the wrong winner...

Say the final is Green Bay 10, Carolina 13

You get an extra 10 points. So I was off by 13 on GB's score, 1 on CAR's score plus the 10 point penelty gives me a total of 24 points for that game.

Rule change from the Playoff game
The kingfc22 rule

Regardless of win or lose, you get negative bonuses for guess scores right. If you get 1 team's score right, you get a -3 point bonus. If you happen to guess the score right for both teams, you get a -10 bonus.

Say the final is Green Bay 10, Carolina 14

I was 13 points off of the GB score, got the CAR score perfect, so that's -3, plus 10 for guessing the wrong winner, so that gives me 20 for this game (4 points better than being 1 point off).

If the final is how I guessed it, Green Bay 23, Carolina 14, then I would receive a -10 for the game.

I combine all of your points for the 4 games, lowest score wins.

EDIT:

Forgot one of the rules. If you should miss a week, you will receiv the average points * 1.5, so for example, if the average score for the week is 40 points, you'll have 60 points awarded against you for the week.

There will be two scoring systems kept throughout the season.

The first, pretty straight forward, is that I will keep adding your points together, week in week out, and at the end, the lowest overall score wins that standing.

The second system will be seperate point system based on how you place each week. Here's the breakdown:

1st: 100
2nd: 60
3rd: 35
4th: 25
5th-7th: 15
8th-12th: 10
13th-18th: 5
<18th: 0

So if you get the lowest overall score for that week, you get 100 points for the second standings, if you get 2nd lowest during the week, you get 60 points, etc. etc.

This way we have two seperate ranking systems. For last year's Super Bowl, we had some pretty far out predictions because the amount of points between places was pretty large. This way we have an overall leaderboard, plus (if you're a tennis fan) a "Challenge Race" point system too.

We'll see how it works.

So far (with less than 4 hours left), 4 people have put a prediction on tonight's IND-NE game. Here's how it stands so far.

3-1 in favor of an Indianapolis win

The average points for IND: 24
The average points for NE: 21.25

So (rounding to 21.5 for NE since there's a sizable decimal figure), the FOFC Spread on the game tonight so far is 2 1/2 points. The defending Super Bowl champs are underdogs.

I was looking through, and in my cursory look I couldn't see who you might have confused me with. Not sure if anyone picked St. Louis to lose.

A look at the points

So far, last year's 2nd place finisher kingfc22 is in the lead with just 19 points total, doing better than even those who have only 2 games counted so far (the 4 that predicted for the KC-DEN game).

Butter of 69 is at the bottom with 79 total points. JeeberD is 4 from the bottom (in 16th) despit 2 good predictions because of that huge 56 point showing in the Baltimore-Cleveland game. He has 73 total points.
