UMass vs. Colgate

Someone. Anyone?

Going down after the ND/Mich game ends. It's D1AA, but Colgate (#4) knocked us (UMass #14) out in the first round of the playoffs last year after a bullshit set-up where we had to go on the road round 1 despite being #3 in the nation. From talking to some of the UMass players, they are still pissed about that and looking to make a statement. Colgate does return the Payton award winner (1aa equivalent of the Heisman) in Jamaal Branch (2300 yds and 29 td's), so this game should be very interesting.

Anyone else care?

UMass 14 - Colgate 0 2nd quarter

Colgate's also an interesting team to follow in 1AA as they (and the entire Patriot League) don't offer athletic scholarships (they do offer need based aid similar to the Ivy League); only unlike the Ivy League, the Patriot League participates in the 1AA postseason. Colgate ended up going to the 1AA final, where they lost to Delaware last year.

I care -- go Colgate. (As long as Brown is at UMass, I'm cheering for whoever's playing against UMass.)

Technically, he isn't coaching the first 3 games, due to the buy-out deal.

Great game for UMass. 30-20, and it could have been much worse. Possibly the best kick-off return I've seen in a year or so by RJ Cobbs was called back. He made 7 guys miss on it. Defense was amazing. Even though the D-Line lost all 4 starters, Branch was shut down.
