Clemson v. Ga. Tech
Anyone watching this game. ? One of those plays that will be remembered forever. Botched punt snap that will probably give Ga. Tech a 28-24 win.

Clemson had the game won with almost no time left. 2nd and inches and couldn't convert on two plays. On fourth down, the Clemson long snapper made a horrible snap, and the Clemson punter fell down on the ball on their own 10. On the next play, Ga. Tech throws the winning TD pass.

holy fucking shit man.
What was Bowden/his Defense coach thinking? Why do 1 on 1 coverage when you've been killed on the corner route on every GT touchdown. It makes no sense, although I will say Johnson pushed off on the last TD. But Justin Miller is probably the most overrated DB in the country, so hopefully this proves it to everyone else. Am I alone in saying that no ACC team deserves a BCS bid this year? 3 of their top 4 teams have looked like complete shit (FSU, Miami, Clemson). The only good looking team was UVa, and they beat Temple and UNC. But I love to see the Clemson fans lose, it couldn't happen to a better group.. |

All across the country presses are being stopped and writers are re-typing their reports for tomorrows papers. Upset Saturday may not be over yet. Texas v. Arkansas is on right now. It's 22-20 Texas right now with 6:24 left in the fourth quarter.

8:19 left in the 4th -- Clemson gets a 62 yd run to go up 17-7 7:18 left -- GT goes 3-and-out, punts 4:36 left -- GT scores on a 49 yd drive after forcing a punt & getting a 31 yd PR to set it up. Still down 17-14 3:18 left - Clemson gets a 54 yd run to go up 24-14 1:50 left - GT scores on a 36 yd drive, set up by a celebration penalty & then 32 yd KOR. Still down 24-21 0:16 left -- Clemson manages one of the worst punt snaps I've ever seen after being stopped on 2nd-and-inches, and 3rd-and-inches, ball finally covered by the punter after a 27 yd loss back to the 10. 0:11 left -- Ball to Thomas on the fade for a TD ... GT suddenly leads 28-24 0:03 left - Clemson throws incomplete to the end zone after a celebration penalty against GT & a 60 yd KOR put them at the GT 31 for the final play.

I'll also say that celebration penalty against Clemson was BS.

That was ALMOST as sweet as William Bell's 50+ yard TD run against Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl. Almost.

Well, FSU and Miami have great defenses, but yes I think they both have HUGE question marks, especially at QB. But I'd wait until NC State plays Ohio State (next week?) before drawing any conclusions about them. Maryland has also not been heavily tested yet.

I almost just ignored this... But, to whom do you want to compare the ACC? The Big 12? Home losses by Nebraska and Kansas State. A road loss by Missouri. Texas looked average against Arkansas. Oklahoma seemed mortal last week against Bowling Green. The SEC? LSU escaped last week on missed extra points. Georgia has looked sluggish at best. Florida and Tennessee haven't played anyone. Auburn looks pretty good at this point. PAC-10? There is NO ONE beyond USC in that conference. Nice job by the Oregon schools. The Pacific Northwest looks like a football hotbed this fall...if you are talking about high school football. The Big 10? Ohio State struggled with Marshall. Michigan got smacked by Notre Dame. Iowa battled with Iowa State. Minnesota and Wisconsin haven't looked great. The Big East has probably overachieved to this point. Can't really bash them yet. So maybe no one deserves a BCS bid? Back to the ACC...Clemson was probably overrated. But Miami and Florida State played EACH OTHER. They made each other look bad. Virginia looks to be pretty good. Maryland will be solid. NC State will be decent. Virginia Tech played USC tough. Georgia Tech and Wake look to be better than anticipated. As a whole the conference is still one of the top 2 from top to bottom in the country. |

Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than good.

Hey digamma, you can't blame Iowa for struggling against Iowa State, it's a rivalry game. Not only that, but it's by far the most important game of the season for Iowa State. So reserve judgement for Iowa until after the game against ASU next week.

Don't forget CJ! Scary to think what this team might do next year with that offensive trio and defensive line.

Clemson's defense is not very good. They probably should've lost last week, so this was payback.
That said, I bet that long snapper's gonna take some crap about that for a long time. I didn't see the game, just the highlights, but does anyone else think Clemson should've just taken a safety in that situation? Would've left Tech with about 10 seconds or less to field the free kick and get some points out of it. Not surprised Bowden didn't think of it, as he has shown me nothing from a coaching standpoint since coming to CU.

The announcers talked about it. They were on the 35 yard line, so they would have had to put a speedy wide receiver in to race back the 25 yards (after the snap). I think punting the ball was the correct call. The snap was so bad and out of control that the kicker really couldn't do anything but fall on the ball. Still, the loss shouldn't just be blamed on the long snapper. They had second and third and inches and couldn't get a first down. On third and inches they ran a hand-off out of the I, and the back fumbled the ball. Once Tech had the ball, they didn't double cover Calvin Johnson, who is 6-4 and had caught two jump ball TD's earlier in the game. They put their best corner Justin Miller, who is only 5-8 on him. It was no contest. I think that was the real coaching blunder. |

Clemson was on the 37, so a planned safety seems pretty unlikely even from a thinking coach... you usually see that when you're punting out of your own end zone or something. Once the snap went that far back the tech defense was all over the punter, it's unlikely he could have scooped the ball up and run it back into the end zone for the safety. |

Yeah, I know the punter wouldn't have made it b/c those Tech guys were all over him... but I guess you don't figure that play will go wrong... but it's not like Clemson's kicking game is strong. Their FG kicker is new, their punter is mediocre at best, and they have had snap problems in the past. Well, whatever. I suppose if you can't make 2nd and 3rd and inches, you shouldn't win anyway.

I had thought the hype around Clemson was pretty damned absurb considering except for the stretch to close last year where Tommy finally coached as if his job depended on it, the Tigers haven't done anything during Tommy's tenure to merit the respect they got this year. Seeing Wake push them to OT at Death Valley (it took a rally to even force the OT) and then have them squander the game against Tech, I have no idea why anyone considered them Top 25 material. They are the NC State (speaking from experience) of 2004 in the ACC: big expectations, trendy pick, but no long-term backing to prove the worth.
