TCY 1.3: Trying NC State for difficulty.

OK. I've been getting some work done, checking FOFC, and running 20-year sims with 1.3 on two different machines. I did this because I've found that in my longer TCY careers, the SEC tends to decline on the whole. I wanted to see which conferences remain difficult over the long haul, and therefore which conferences I might want to play in. I found that the ACC was the toughest one overall in the two runs that I did. It was first in average prestige after 20 years in one sim, and second in the other. The Big 10 was next, with a second and a third place finish. The others were a mixed bag. The SEC finished first in one sim, but that was because UGA had a 100 in Prestige in that run. No one else in the SEC was above 78 after 20 years, and in the other run, Florida led the SEC with an 81 Prestige. So far, it appears that the ACC is the best option if you're looking for multiple teams in your conference in the Top 20. Also, I'd imagine that playing with N.C. State would present a recruiting nightmare. Duke, UNC and Wake are all significantly better academically, and five teams in the conference start off with higher prestige than NC State. Finally, left to its own devices in the sims, NC State finished 69-153 with 54 Prestige in one run, and 115-114 with 60 Prestige in the other. I'm going to start a new 1.3 career with the Wolfpack, and see how things go.

Thoughts on others to try?

I'm curious to see how the 'Academic Universities' perform.

In my previous UCF Dynasty, schools such as Stanford, Northwestern, Miami of Ohio, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Vanderbilt Army and Navy, among others, fared quite nicely. There were a couple of quality academic schools that basically stunk (as they do in real life), namely Duke and Wake Forest, but overall there was definitely quite a built in advantage for schools with high academic prestige.

I'm wondering if this situation will be a little more realistic this time around, with the new patch.

Just a quick glance at the Top 15 Academic schools after 20 years, and their Prestiges ratings (academic rating first)...

CAREER ONE
Michigan (87/100)
Northwestern (87/59)
UVA (86/80)
Stanford (86/63)
Rice (79/82)
Tech (74/67)
Northern Indiana Institute For Evil (74/100)
Washington (73/52)
Wake (72/57)
Air Force (71/61)
Army (71/62)
Navy (70/75)
Southern Cal (70/91)
Maryland (69/81)
UNC (68/76)

Looks pretty good. Rice is probably the only one performing significantly better than expected.

Career two in next post...

Interesting. I'm surprised at Washington's lack of prestige because in my experience they tend to dominate their corner of the TCY world.

They went 53-167 with zero bowl appearances in the first career, and 99-126 with 5 appearances in the other.

Very interesting info... Thanks for posting SkyDog.

Good to see Superior Academics does not necessarily equal Superior Football this time around.

As for the UW Huskies, heck they were actually pretty much garbage in my UCF Dynasty (using Patch 1.2). S.C. and Stanford dominated the Pac-10, with UCLA and Wazzu, 3rd and 4th respectively. After those four there was a big time drop off to the bottom six, including UW. Heck, I remember a handful of years where the Huskies went 0-for in Conference Play.

Being a Wolfpack alum, I'll be following along with great interest.

I did a NCSU dynasty with TCY 1.2, and built them into a national powerhouse after about 10 seasons. It eventually boiled down to a two-team conference with us and Maryland battling it out for the BCS bid every season. I was surprised to see Florida State go from an elite team to bottom-feeder status during that time. I put the Sol-8 in California.

In virtually every long-term career with 1.2 and 1.2a that I've run, FSU becomes a bottom feeder.

I've got the SC8 in Alaska for this career.

Nothing major. Just no more than 1 call/1 visit per week per player. I also never bribe. I think that's about it.
