I thought it might be worthwhile to make a thread where people could introduce other board members to their favorite charities, since some worthy charities may not be as well known as others.
Two of my favorites are The Nature Conservancy and Sierra Club. The Nature Conservancy purchases land containing endangered habitats to protect the habitats from industrial exploitation. The Sierra Club acts as an advocate for the environment in Washington and helps shape our country's environmental policies. What charities do you support? I support Doctors Without Borders which provides emergency medical relief around the world, often in the harshest conditions. Countries in the midst of civil war, ethnic strife, and refugee crises generally do not have adequate medical personnel and supplies to aid the wounded and stop diseases which can easily break out in bad conditions. They do a lot of amazing work and I'm glad to support them.

I used to give to a Lesbian association but when they included gays I stopped. I gave to the lesbians because we had like interests. They like women, and so do I.

We give pretty generously where causes that have touched our lives are concerned.
The ALS association (Mrs Sam's father died of this horrible disease) Hospice of Central New York (they were a great comfort to aforementioned father in law) The March of Dimes (they are committed to pregnancy and childbirth related health)

The Get JeeberD's Ass Though College Finally Fund
If I had any extra cash, though, I would contribute to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (my grandfather died from CLL [chronic lymphocytic leukemia] and my father has been battling it for the past couple of years) and the Coppell Humane Society, the place where I got my latest kitten... ![]()

I never donate money.
I donate platelets, once a month and whole blood every 58 days at Red Cross. It saves 5 lives for each donation. That is reward enough for me. |

Yep. Dude dropped out cuz he couldn't afford the tuition, made a fortune in liquor sales, and then gave $100 mil of that to Brown. Wonder if the idea was so that future Brown students wouldn't have the tuition problems he had.
My favored charity would be City of Hope - they're one of the bigger cancer treatment/research centers in, well, the world, really. |

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation. It provides college scholarships to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident.

Union Gospel Mission (they give food and shelter to homeless/welfare cases) Local hospital fund MS Society Unicef I've donated money to other places in the past and if they send me some fancy brochure after asking for more, I won't donate again. I abhor having donated money going to overhead, the more making it to someone who needs it the better. |

Yeap. If your willing to take risks, work hard and have perseverance, you'll do just fine. Look at Bill Gates, Michael Dell, ect. for example. Edited for dumb miskate. Last edited by SunDancer : 09-17-2004 at 12:32 AM. |
