Yep, in 1982 it was DeBerg, but before that, Craig Morton was the QB for a number of years.

depends on the definition of "before".

DeBerg was the QB in '82, the year before Elway.
Craig Morton was the QB for the 5 years before that.

Actually Steve DeBerg was one of my favorite players years ago. He preceded Elway in Denver, Montana in SF and Steve Young in TB - playing the mentor to each. Just watched an NFL Films feature on that very fact just a couple of days ago.
