Jeanne Missed us, for the most part

Well, Jeanne missed us and spared us some of the damage she wreaked this week. We got some pretty good wind and plenty of rain. She was able to take some lives, which is horrible. I heard of some teenagers who were playing in their backyard when the thing came through and a tree fell on them, killing one. Thats terrible, but why were they out in the yard. If I were their parents, before the tragedy occurred, I'd have a fit if they wanted to go outside. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I just dont understand how were not more precautonary when these things give us advanced warning that theyre coming our way. My condolonces and prayers DO go out to all those affected by the storm and those who will be in the coming hours and days. Hopefully this hurricane season comes to a quick end so that people can begin to move on. The faces on TV let everyone know just how exhausting this can be when it is repetitive. Just when you think you can take the boards down, you end up having to put them back up. Well, thanks to all of you who may or may not have affected the cane with your prayers, either way theyre appreciated and better to have them than to not.....just in case.

That was probably our most intense encounter of the 5 systems we endured (4 hurricanes, plus TS Bonnie). It didn't start raining until after 6pm, but all night, the wind was howling between houses pretty well, well enough to keep waking me up and the rain was, although not a downpour, steady. Florida pretty much got carved up by these storms, and Tallahassee was lucky enough to get virtually no damage and only minimal power outages out of any of them.

Did you end up going to Valdosta? I was thinking about you when I saw that the system was beginning to turn toward us and was forecast to head up to Valdosta. The only thing worse than staying in Valdosta is staying there during a tropical storm/hurrricane when you don't even live there.

An amazing bit of trivia - Florida is the first state since Texas in 1886 to be hit by 4 hurricanes in one year. That 1886, not 1986.
