Freeware game...

I stumbled over this yesterday. hxxp://www.peoplestactics.com/ It seems to be a neat little wargame that has PBEM capbility by up to 10 people. Might be interesting for some here to try out and hell, it's free.

Time for me to plug "Battle for Wesnoth" again I think

Its a very cool turn based strategy game which is 'free' .... developed by a Internet based group of programmers

I followed Marc's advice and downloaded the game. A very solid "free" pick up. Though I find the game pretty hard (can't quite beat the third scenario with the mermen and such). I just don't think I've quite gotten the handle of it yet.

But for free the game is excellent. It'd really just a step below some of the older "Warlords" or "Age of Wonders" type games. A step below and free. Hard to pass that up.

The 'mermen' one is hard - its possible to beat it, but its fairly challenging ... the trick is to pick a solid tactic and not expect to 'win' the battle on all fronts at once.

Also bear in mind that this game (unlike many war sims) has a lot of tactical nuances to do with 'persuading' the enemy to do things like split their forces or do sneak attacks. Generally speaking if you keep your forces well out of range of the enemy and give them a closer 'lure' to attack then you can persuade them to ignore a 'raiding' party.

If you look at the bottom right of the map in the ocean you'll see a little trident on one of the hex's - this ISNT just a graphic (and thats all the tips I'll give for now - if you want more then feel free to PM you, I just don't want to give things away unless you're 'truly' stuck).

I rate the game pretty highly, I'd rate it above the old "Warlords" games and tactically I think its on a level (or slightly above) "Age of Wonders" ... however the graphics are obviously not quite as good.

Have Fun,

Marc
PS. If you think the third map is hard the fifth is a real doozy
