TCY Change needed soon

As always Solecismic Software has been responsive and put out an update to TCY. These changes left somethings a little unbalanced. I would hope another update could rectify this. The Indendent League is too small. Of course, I understand that will remain. The biggest problem is the bowl tie in. Two slots for the Independent is too much. It should go to a different league or be at large. What do others think?

I've only got about a million thoughts about TCY, but to address your points - I understand scheduling is a real problem to code for Jim, which manifests itself in many areas.

Personally, I'd like to see the Solecismic-8 go away, and a pool of generic Division 1-AA teams generated each season to fill in any gaps in team schedules. This should have the effect of freeing up scheduling such that independents can truly be independent teams and not in a conference, as well as allowing more flexibility in out of conference schedules and some of the odd "permanent opponent" selections.

There are plenty of challenging schools to take control of without the SCE, and this would also remove the weird unbalanced recruiting caused by the extra recruits in the SCE state.

I'd like to see the Bowl tie-ins better reflect the actual conference affiliations as well.

I don't think true independents will ever be possible (because of the scheduling), but I would like to see Solecismic make the 'Solecismic 8' and the 'Independent' conference one and the same. Simply make it the independents + X number of teams needed to make the conference full. It would also be nice if you could choose cities for the Solecismic teams, rather than just sticking them all in one state.

Agreed. Or at the very least widening the geographical range of cities so that you can have a decent regional conference.

Not quite sure if that would work--it would be really weird to see Notre Dame in a conference with a bunch of fake schools...

Didn't Jim mention some time ago the possibility of reprogramming the "Independent" league so that they would only be eligible for at-large bids?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe EA's NCAA Football series has true independents. Their solution, and the one I think Jim should adopt, is to use generic Division 1-AA opponents to fill out any gaps in the Division 1-A schedules.

As for the bowl affiliations, I don't think it would take a tremendous amount of work to re-do the bowl selection algorithms to better reflect reality.
