The AP is reporting that Kerry has called Bush and conceded the White House. Still lokking for the story.

Yep, MSNBC just reported this, but can't confirm on their own.

Any Republicans care to call him classy? Or is that still too much of a stretch for you while you're busy gloating?

My hats off to The Senator for being chivalric and admitting to defeat.

Busy gloating or planning our demise?

J/k. I am a democrat and obviously voted for Kerry, but I guess the people have spoken and thus that is the way the cookie crumbles.

I'll be glad to call him classy for it. His supporters that continue to fire barbs at the 51% of the country that voted for Bush? Not quite so much.

I have not yet even begun to gloat.
Hell, I haven't even warmed up yet.

I figure I'll wait a few hours, or maybe even days, until the Dems begin to poke their heads out again ... and THEN I'll begin to gloat in earnest.

I'll call him classy. I've never been sold on either candidates ability to unite a country that is the most divided I can remember (I'm only 30) but a process like we had four years ago would only deepen that divide and the best thing for him to do was move on and help his party look ahead.

We learned a lot four years ago and that resulted in less problems in 04 and a higher turnout. At least both sides can take something out of that.

This was a close race that could easily have gone the other way. I didn't vote for Sen. Kerry, but I congratulate him on a very close race.

I'm glad he went ahead and did it, particularly in light of the fact that it the provisionals in Ohio can't be counted for 11 days. I can't be sure, though, whether he did it because of his "class" as opposed to "necessary for the good of the Party."

I appluad Kerry for conceding - he was defeated fair and square in both the popular vote and electoral college and he let the election results stand in doing so. The last thing this country needs is for its presidential elections to be decided by a couple thousand lawyers so kudos to him for doing the right thing and admitting that he was beaten.

I'm sure they will either go back to law or political analyst of some sort.

Kerry and Edwards are still Senators and will continue to be Senators. They did not resign.

Umm ... Edwards seat was taken by Rep. candidate Burr last night (defeating former Clintonista Erskine Bowles)

They didn't rerun for their seats. I believe Leiberman did, so a once presidential candidate like him, has retained his seat.

Question, if you rerun for senate and president, and win presidency, does your seat automatically go to the challenger?

I think Bush won the Texas governor seat when he ran for the President in 2000, but the runner-up got it after Bush took the election.

Our Lieutenant Governor got promoted (and then got re-elected).

That was a fun race. I was all set to vote for the Libertarian challenger (assuming there was one, no matter who) like I did in the Governor's race 2 years ago thanks to all the mudslinging before the election (Vinroot could have taken the high road after Easley started showing up in his first-ever public service announcement ads a month or so before the election, but chose not to), but about a week before the election Burr really ratcheted back (still a few gibes at the Clinton connection, but I actually got some "here's what I stand for" mail from him) while Bowles started his full-on "breast cancer" assault without a single item that talked about what he would do. As soon as I got the Bowles' ad disguised as a public-service breast cancer awareness flyer, I decided no way I was going to throw my vote to a third party and give Bowles that tiny little bit of help. I mean, my mailbox in the week leading up to the election was about half Bowles' attack ads.

Jon does have a point here...

This whole thing is as mind boggling as if, for example, the Lions signed a young Scott Mitchell to start as QB for their team. They let him start for four years seeing just what kind of QB he is. He is horrible beyond words, despite one decent year. Hey, not even Mitchell is ALL bad. His four-year contract then expires and he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Lions then inexplicably re-sign Scott to a massive, cap-crippling four year deal...

That is exactly what it's like...

This situation only makes the slightest bit of sense Scott Covington is the only FA QB out there.
