Why do people log out???
In light of the problems we're having, it clearly isn't a good idea to log out of the board now, but I'm wondering why anyone *ever* logs out. I just close my browser, and the next time I open it and clck on the FOFC link, I'm logged in automatically. What's the point of logging out and having to re-enter a password? Am I missing something here?

Maybe they share the computer with multiple untrustworthy people.

Sometimes I delete cookies to get rid of all the porn I have on my computer, I don't like my computer having so much filth in it for some reason, maybe its just a pet peeve of mine.

I just realized it could be because they are using a shared computer.

didn't you post something about the database being hacked and it being a good idea to change our passwords?

Shared computer....
With a roommate or something? I'm still not fully getting it. I share my home desktop computer with my wife, and I used to log in to The Sideline on a computer I shared with a roomie. It still never would have even occurred to me to log out. Someone mentioned "multiple untrustworthy people." The only situation I can think of that would cause that would be a college suite. (I'm assuming that no one on here would share a home/computer with multiple untrustworthy people willingly...) Is the fear that a roomie will check the history, go to the board, and start posting trollish stuff or something?

It's likely the cookie-cleaners that are logging out.

I usually log out of everything. FOFC is the only exception. And at work, I seem to be logged out randomly.
I think logging out gives a sense of security. |

The logger outers are probably the same people who have never just turned the computer off but always do Start/Shutdown and wait however long it takes.

I didn't mean for this thread to turn into picking on anyone, and I hope my tone hasn't been that way. I'm just genuinely curious about this.

I would imagine people like Jim who prefer to be hidden have to log out and log back in.
Could that be it?

well in that same thread someone said (I'm pharaphrasing) "I'm logged in should I log out and try again to see if it works" and you replied with a yes sure or something to that effect....and then no further response from anyone if it worked or not so mabey others were trying to see if it did work or not. Just my guess. |

I'm sure this is rare, and doesn't explain numerous people logging out, but trying to solve the enigma puzzles requires you to log out and log back in as enigma, with the password being the answer to the puzzle.
Just another possible reason.

Holding the power button to shut my computer off would require me to bend down, so that's out of the question. I just log off normally.

Ditto, although I will probably be screwed, and locked out again tomorrow morning. Something I am wondering, since I can log in early in the AM hours could there be some constraint on the number of log ins? This whole thing just doesn't make too much sense to me. |

I normally stay logged in at home, but I changed my password immediately after the board came back up and I haven't been able to get back in since. In the school library - where I am now - I always log out.

This is justing an interesting tidbit, but before the "crash" of FOFC, I'd never log out, always had the "remember me" box checked, for when I came back to the board.
Then, strange things started happening, I'd have to log in every time I visited, even with the box checked. |
