Generally when I start a MMORG I leave after 3 months (Everquest and DAoC) City of heroes has kept my interest for 7 months so far and is losing steam but not dead yet.

Question: anyone beta test WoW and enjoy it? How does it compare to the above three?

The release date is soon and if it holds promise I'll jump in on day one. Blizzard has a great reputation with me but another fantasy D&D based game seems stale.

I liked the beta personally.. but there is ZERO end game raid content.. and won't be any till probably the first expansion.. So keep that in mind..

But the game itself is alot of fun..

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I love being able to group when I WANT to instead of being forced to. I agree that end game is concern but they got me pretty busy ATM so I'm sure blizzard will have me busy when and if I make it to end game. Very nice game for logging on for an hour or two and feeling like you actually got something done.....not standing waiting for another gamer to complete you.

I am having a great time so far in beta. Lots of quests to do. Easy to learn interface. Tradeskills are a piece of cake to do, not like in Everquest where they were almost a chore. No exp grind in WoW. I think it is going to be a great game.

Disclaimer: I'm not in the beta

I just read in the Blizzard Insider that all the end game raid content was being withheld until lauch, for the "surprise" factor. There was a pretty good interview with Jeff Kaplan about the various raid structures, things like a black dragon (Onyxia) cavern and Ragnaros' lair, with some raids having multiple "bosses" enroute to the main encounter.

You beta guys may know more, but just though I'd throw this out there since it landed in my inbox yesterday.

Ugh. Don't remind me.

I've been supposed to do a website for a friend of mine's guild for like...ever now. As I have zero interest in WoW (or really, any online RPG anymore), it's so far down on my list of priorities it ain't even funny.

'Course, my excuse of 'the game ain't even out yet, man' apparently will soon dry up.

End game raid? I haven't played an MMORPG in years so I don't recognize the term.

'End-game' = After you have reached the high(est) levels and have attained much 'phat lewtz'
'Raid' = When many players come together to achieve an objective. Often that objective includes the complete slaughter of all the players. Repeatedly. (See 'balance')
'End game raid' = A large congregation of high-level players, assembled to 'pharm phat lewtz, yo'

Any questions?

As for WoW... meh. I'd rather play EQ2.

I'm in this Beta, and speaking as a 2-year play every day EQ player, I can say don't bother. It is like EQ with better graphics and the content removed. Rarely have I been this disappointed in a game I have been anticipating for years. It is of Black & White proportions.

Open beta started for this... still signups availiable at https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com

One thing I noticed though, is they seem to be using a bit torrent type system for downloading of the client, and patching.... This has to change once they go live, no way I'm paying 15 bucks (or 13, whatever) and having to download patches off other peoples computer and upload it while d/l'ing it.

I've been playing the beta for a few days, one thing I like is the fact that every class I have tried can solo with relative ease. Which means no tedious looking for groups to kill low level creatures.

I have played DAoC, Ultima Online, and Shadowbane all for extensive periods of time with UO being my favorite -ever- but I'd have to say this ranks right up there with UO so far.

Quests: The quests aren't nearly as mind numbing as the ones in DAoC where you'd get it and have to horse to 5 different towns and talk to people then go kill some creature and turn in whatever. Also you don't have to sift thru tons of text to get it. Clicking on options as you go down to get more of the worthless story that most of us didn't read anyway and had to go to a 3rd party site to actually figure out what the quest wanted us to do.

With WoW when you get a quest it gives you a short background story, then tells you something like go to the East and kill wild boars, bring me back 8 boar hooves, if you complete the quest your reward will be ____ and it shows you exactly what you can get from completing the quest, whether it be coin, armor, weapon, food, etc.

Loot: All MMORPG players have been in a group when loot came up and we really wanted it but some greedy buttnutt took it for his other character. With WoW the group leader can adjust the group loot settings and I haven't completely figured it out yet, because I think we had only the really unique stuff flagged, but when something unique came up a pair of dice appeared on the screen and we had to click it to 'roll' for the item. Noone actually held the item while this was going on and there was a timer on the roller so if someone was AFK they weren't going to somehow luck into the loot. After everyone rolls it automatically goes to the person who rolled the highest.

Things that bother me: Right now there are just a ton of people trying the game out so mostly everyone is still in the 'noob' areas which can make it hard to level up.

Grouping penalties seem to be rather harsh right now my friend is level 12 and I'm 9, killing creatures ranging from 10-12 I get about 36 experience, whereas if I solo a level 7-9 creature I get 70-95ish exp.

Deattribution was right about the bittorrent type patch downloads, but it doesn't really bother me. The first patch I downloaded the other day the first mb was slow, then after that it just coasted along as I was getting it from others. Bad part about this is a friend of mine from the University of Florida had his internet shut off for an hour as a penalty for downloading via bittorrent (they have rules against using things like bittorrent and other p2p software).

I am open to any other questions you have, note that I haven't tried any crafting as of yet but I probably will soon. And I haven't done any sort of pvp which I am really looking forward to.

If I can solve my HD/Motherboard issues I will give the beta a try asap. EQ and DAoC kept my interest for 3 months. CoH really has kept my interest. (7 Months so far) I am hoping that WoW will solve my fantasy fix.
