Methinks that on an FOF board the results will be at least slightly skewed...

FBCB is #2 IMO and isn't even on the list. CM/FM hands down for me.

FBCB is probably my #1 even though I haven't played it in a while. CM/FM is great, but it just takes so long and my schedule is such that I never play it. FBCB combined quick use, good engine, and adequate depth in a way that really makes it the best value for me.

CM/FM from me, then EHM and FBCB tied. No disrespect meant, but how can you have TDCB on the list, but not FBCB?

That FBCB is not on the list, the poll is unvotable. Don't you remember the poll from last year about the Best Sports Sim Developer and Brian won, over Jim no less??? To me, FBCB is way better than everything on that list. I am not a fan of FOF, OOTP has become boring and CM is a non-entity. The rest don't even register with me. As sab alluded, how in the world could have left FBCB off, don't you even know about that game? Besides, where's TCY? That's still available, isn't it?

I think you're right, the results will be skewed. Not necessarily because people are biased toward FOF, just because everyone on here has at least played FOF. You can't say that for the other ones. For instance, I have only played 4 of the games listed, so I wouldn't know if any of those are the best or not. But of the games I've played, FOF is the best. ![]() Last edited by JimboJ : 11-05-2004 at 03:57 PM. |

Im somewhat surprised, even given the sample here, that CM isnt winning this hands down - its the holy grail of text sims.

That's a good point. Plus since a popular title like FBCB is missing, that may skew the results as well. There are also some titles on the list that I've never even heard of, much less played. Pure Sim? |

Was it a different award (like game of the year) that FBCB won? I have the same memory as Bucc (and that, in itself, is bizarre).

It's quite a bit better, according to most who have played TDCD (I haven't.) There's a free demo and let me say that most of the people who play the demo buy the game. The developer is a poster here and the feedback you get if you have any problems is often close to instantaneous. http://www.fbbgames.com/fbcb/ It's a top-notch game. |

Yeah, I saw it too. I had to keep looking at who wrote it to be sure it said SkyDog. Also, while CM has the most features and immersion, it tends to run too slowly to fire it up and play a quick year or two. And leaving out FBCB is a big omission. I didn't respond because it's not on the list. |

You only say that because of the sport it simulates. You would/should be drooling all over the CM model of "immersion" if your demands for a sim you like haven't changed.

That is only partly true. Remember, I did try the CM 01/02 demo and while I did find it a quality game (like every other game on the list), it could never grab me because I would have to care about the results. But I say 'partly' because I am only a causal college hoops fan but FBCB has grabbed me like no other game on that list (except the first year I played OOTP4/5). So maybe my demands have changed (I think it is has) to prefer a game with Civ2-like qualities: simple in its execution and deep in its results, which FBCB has given me since March. OOTP was like that but not any more but if OOTP develops a CM-like level of complexity and immersion, I honestly do not know if it would be a game I like. It truly must the mind that is going, huh? |

Well forgetting about the sport, the newest version (I don't have it yet) from what I understand has the ability to macromanage a lot more than in CM 01/02. You can basically have the AI do the things you don't want to do.
Also if I remember the interface wasn't a favorite of yours either. The newer ones are pretty slick and skinnable. I think if there was an SI Games version of FOF you would like it. As far as changing your mind, everyone does that it's not a sign of going senile!

I think you are right, HFP. I do remember looking at all of the screenshots when it was announced last Summer and came away very impressed. But as you said, I cannot forget about the sport so CM, in itself, becomes a non-entity - for me.

If you have time for it, and only it, FM/CM wins. Problem with the game is it is too much. Yes, it is possibly the absolute perfect sim for its sport, but it is so involved I simply cannot enjoy it because it takes way too much time. For the average player, there really is a point where there can be too much of a good thing.
