FOFC Front Page Redesigned.

http://www.sportplanet.com/fof

In the next few days, www.frontofficefootballcentral.com can be used as well. KUDOS to Blackadar for undertaking the redesign. I'll be adding some additional content as well, and Blacky is going to be writing/coordinating some regular features. We'd LOVE to hear your feedback. Thanks!

You should probably add TPB and TDCB to the basketball sim list...

Our trout feed on a steady diet of ice weasels, apparently.

Yeah, I thought the ice weasels were replaced by first the colossal squid and then the rectal trout.

Ah well...

A beautiful October 2000 reference.

Just a couple of things:

1. Links on the front page are at Ben's (or mine, if he lets me) discretion. So will be the games listed on the "other favorites" page. We aren't playing favorites so much as giving our opinions on "best of breed". For what it's worth.

2. It's still a work in progress. The "Ice Weasels" thing was just something funny for old timers. It's more of a placeholder that can change from page to page. If we get some great QOTM material, we may link that to replace the Ice Weasels.

Good catch, Jeeber. That should have been removed. It's the Historic Football League, which is listed below.

Very nice guys. I especially like the stadium pics when you go to another screen besides the home screen. Very cool.

a couple comments:

1) love the look and layout, especially the screenshots (although I'd center them over the text)
2) FOF4 was not distributed by EA Sports
3) the Title Tag for the FOF4 page indicates "FOF1"
4) the html for some of the stadium pics is not only screwed up, it tells me Blackie's real name (of course, I already knew this...)
5) at work, I am in 800x600 layout, and the entire right third of the screen is gone. if you guys are serious about this site being an often used text sim portal (and I hope you are), you might want to scale the layouts to different resolutions. Looks good in both IE and Firefox, btw.
6) especially since Jim uses a similar layout and color scheme for his site, I think I'd probably have the link to his site open up in a different window to make it clear the two aren't part of the same site.

there's more "negatives" than positives on this list, but, truly I love the site - it adds a great deal of legitimacy to this community.

Thanks to Ben for letting me help. This is still his site - I'm just glad I could lend a hand.

Also, thanks for the suggestions. To be perfectly frank, this is my *ahem* 1st ever web page design. I added the content on the old site, but that wasn't my design. I was going to use a template, but I finally just decided to build it myself. So I'm fairly happy given that I created it from scratch and I'd never done one before.

I was a *very* happy camper when I realized I had the old Sideline banner still on my old 'puter. I thought that might have been lost forever.

I may be overstepping my bounds here, but if you want to add some content or be a regular writer on the front page, you probably should give Ben a shout. We'd like to have more going on than just the forums.

very nice work for your 1st attempt.
just the fact that there's no scrolling text or flashing gifs is a huge step over most first-timers!

i think that all the links should open up into a new page, not just Jim's. That's just my personal preference of course, but i hate when links open in the same page and i've got to click back all the time

I probably should have done that. I'm just so used to FireFox - I right click the link and it opens in a new tab - that it didn't occur to me to open all external links in a new window.

btw, to make a link open in a new page, you just need to add target="_BLANK" to your href tag.

for example
a href="http://www.solecismic.com/index.php" target="_BLANK"

my favorite firefox tip:
if you have a scroll mouse, you can click a link with your scroll wheel to open in a new tab too.

As another option, you can include this code taken from Grey Dog in the head section of the code(I don't think the webmaster will mind ).

This works for Grey Dog, but if you decide to use it, I would make sure to give the links a check manually. If there is a problem, you can manually set the link like Draft Dodger suggested.
