Poker Chips Question...

Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to get poker chips fo the least amount of money... I see nice ones for $200-300 CDN, but I don't want to spend that much to just play for "fun"(small buy ins) with friends. I have a small set from Wal-Mart... but they aren't the greatest as you can imagine...

Anyone?

With sincere apologies to Mike and my deepest hope that this does not completely dissolve into a threadjack, this seems like as good a place as any to mention that, while I've long enjoyed the worthless Canadian dollar jokes (and gotten good mileage out of them myself), we're currently getting ~$0.83 to the US$ -- the highest it's been in 12 years -- and some analysts are predicting it to be on par with the US within 2 years.

So such comments don't really hold much water anymore.

(And no, I don't think I could have written a longer sentence if I tried.)

If the dollar keeps dropping, it might be sooner than that.

http://www.5stardeal.com/ has clay composite chips for 8 cents apiece and 25% off for a limited time. I use these and while they aren't the greatest, they are good for home games. They are called super diamond chips. Really not bad for the price.

Are Canadian dollars 83% the size of U.S. dollars? If so, when the currency exchange rate changes, whose dollar changes size? What about Mexican pesos?

No, but I got that from the FatWallet forums and the users seemed to be pretty happy with them. The same set was selling at Costco...so if you have one near you I suppose you could check them out in person.

Also, Overstock.com sometimes has a great deal on chips with cases.

As Subby said, give Costco a try. I got the 500 clay composite chip set (in briefcase w/dice and 2 packs of cards) for $74.99 (Cdn) a few weeks ago in St. Catharines. I've seen the same set in gaming stores for $200.00+.

They're not real clay, but if you're just looking for something better than plastic, they'll do quite nicely.
