Just random thoughts and ramblings...
"On a field now bearing his leader's name" - perhaps a stadium named for an individual? Lambeau? "Apparition" - a ghost...Red Grange perhaps? Grange played for Chicago though under Halas...don't think Halas has a field named after him. Perhaps Illinois, where Grange played in college? "the honor bestowed was of the most appropriate height" - Did Grange win a Heisman? (hmm, no - wasn't around yet...) Just struck me as a football puzzle for whatever reason, no real reason why. Like I said, just throwing random thoughts out there.

Zuppke Field? That would seem to fit.

Puzzle #25 solution
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Zuppke Field -To put Grange's performance into perspective, Michigan allowed a total of 32 points in its previous twenty games and gave up 24 points over the 17 games after the the Illinois loss. -Galloping Ghost, #77 -That 1924 game against Michigan so inspired Grantland Rice to give Grange his nickname and write: A streak of fire, a breath of flame Eluding all who reach and clutch; A gray ghost thrown into the game That rival hands may never touch; A rubber bounding, blasting soul Whose destination is the goal. -Then less than a week after the remarkable No. 77 completed his college eligibility in 1925, he was breathing life into the struggling professional game. While it was a national television contract four decades later that eventually made the NFL truly major league, it was Grange who first gave the pro game legitimacy. His exhausting coast-to-coast 67-day barnstorming tour with the Chicago Bears filled stadiums and newspaper space. -After the 67-day barnstorming tour, the league was on somewhat stable ground and after leaving to try and start his own league -Grange came back to the NFL beating the New York Giants 23-21 in the first NFL championship. -Pro Football Hall of Fame - 1963 redgrange

Less than an hour to solve it. Impressive. Most impressive. Obi Wan has taught you well.
