I hope Joey gets benched
I really do, i have never had any confidence whatsoever in Joey Harrington.
I'm much more like to see Mike McMahon get the reins for the rest of the season. I hate how the sports radio here thinks McMahon is nothing...what chance has he ever had? Dont gimmie that bullshit stint as a starter two seasons ago eithier, absolutely no talent around him on one of the shiitiest Lions teams ever. In the preseason, McMahon showed some serious armstrength, as well as the ever constant athleteism, the boy can move. at least he can make plays with his feet alone. Teams constantly blitz Joey because they know his first reaction is just to sling the ball outta there..... maybe at the very least with McMahon after he breaks a couple nice scrambles, it'll force the opposing D to be honest. Ah well, bottom line is Harrington is NOT the answer. |

Didn't someone on this board say just a few weeks ago that Harrington is a "real winner QB" whereas Vick is only a "8-8" Qb?

No. I said that for this year and next, I'd want Harrington because (up until the last two weeks) he'd shown me he could win. Vick is benefiting from the NFC South, because without playing in that division the Falcons are a borderline Wildcard team. He's inconsistent, and now Joey, who was doing fine, is playing just as inconsistent. Frankly, at this point, I wouldn't want either. I'd be fine with a Trent Green. |

It helps they're also in the NFC. So maybe it's a bad assumption to make. But how about we put them in the AFC South for Tennessee. Now they're definetly a borderline WC team. |

As a Lions fan I can't see why you'd want this. Don't you want Joey to come out of this tail-spin, turn things around, and became the QB we hoped he would be when we drafted him third overall or whatever?

Elway would never have had a chance to become a Hall of Famer if coaches and fans were as impatient with their young QBs 20 years ago as they are now.

Is there any link between the fact that most of Joey's throws are behind the receiver and that EVERY reciever that he throws to gets hurt? Roy Williams made Joey look good just because he is good enough to go get almost anything thrown relativly near him. Most good QB's put the ball where the receiver can do something with it. Joey looks awful since Roy got banged up. Why? Because even though his arm is just about as naturally talented an arm as you can get, he just isn't a great QB.
I was not happy with the Lions drafting him in the 1st place, but was willing to give him a shot. Joey hasn't done anything in the time he has been with the Lions that should guarantee him a future with the franchise. Look at what he said this week about McMahon getting some snaps in practice... "Maybe it'll light a fire under me." (I think that is an accurate quote, if I missed a word I am sorry) I want a guy wo won't just shrug his shoulders and say "Whatever" when his job is on the line due to his performance. I want a guy who is willing to take the blame and say "Well I haven't been playing as well as I need to. I need to pick it up. This is my team, and I intend on leading it to a championship. But if I want a ring I have to start playing better starting this Sunday, or else this team has to do what it has to do." I don't see that from Joey... I see a guy who enjoys playing the piano more than playing QB... That said, he'll probably be a star if the Lions dump him.

Yup, when facts don't work you can just keep making stuff up. Oh well. We Falcons fans will enjoy watching the playoffs while you and "winner" Joey can sit on the couch thinking how much better he is. ![]() |

I think Harrington is a very good player. Unfortunately, he's been on a crappy team with lousy skill players until this year. Now the Lions have some good skill players, but they're all very young and need some time to develop some cohesion.
I'm a Steelers fan and I think if Big Ben didn't have the veteran offense around him, he would have performed far worse than he has. As far as the Vick/Harrington thing, there's no comparision. Vick, all the way. Last edited by Blackadar : 11-21-2004 at 07:33 AM. |

I like McMahon, he's very exciting, he's like our scaled down version Vick. Unfortunately, I don't think McMahon is very good. Even worse, I don't think Harrington is the answer either. I don't know what his contract situation is, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Lions try to get someone like Kitna this off season.
