My New Favorite News Website

I recently linked to a newsite with various Pacific Island stories. The website is here:

http://pidp.eastwestcenter.org/pireport/graphics.shtml

I love the Pacific stories so much better than normal news. Firstly, it all seems like real news, real issues and such, as opposed to sensationalized crap. And Secondly, there are some really un news items. People mysteriously disappearing in Papua-New Guinea countryside, the death of a scuba diver, charges of island corruption and a banking mob boss found guilty. It a great website, and I check it daily for news from the Pacific!

Ever read Pravda? They have international news surrounded by, say, a story about aliens living in the center of the earth and the best sex remedy Russian scientists are working on.

32 PRISONERS ESCAPE BUKA JAIL, HEAD FOR BOUGAINVILLE

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, Nov. 22) – Some 32 prisoners at the Buka Police Station lockup dashed for freedom yesterday morning after overcoming a duty officer.

The escapees stole a boat and headed for mainland Bougainville.

The escape occurred when most of the police personnel were attending church service.

According to the police officer, one of the inmates was preparing some food and offered him some. As soon as he opened the door, an inmate grabbed him while another threatened him with an axe.

The inmates locked him in the cell and ransacked the station for guns but found only axes and bush-knives. They made their way down to the beach, held up a boat operator and used his boat to cross over to the mainland where they hijacked a truck owned by Dowi Enterprises and drove towards Tinputz.

A man who saw the group board the boat said he though they were going to a garden or farm because of the axes and bush-knives they were carrying.

I think Papua New Guinea needs to examine their prisoner to guard ratio.
