Sounds like the better move. Alot more talent to start with on the Florida team than on the Notre Dame squad. Antoher blow to ND's rep. assuming they were interested.

Wonder if Meyer will coach the BCS game.

Wow. Notre Dame insiders were saying Meyer was a done deal for then just yesterday.

Good. Maybe they'll leave my boy Stoops alone now.

Seriously, I think this is a good move. Meyer's the best out there, and they needed to grab him before ND did.

If ND let go of Willingham to get Meyer they are going to be feeling like fools. I really wish they would get rid of Kevin White...

I though Meyer was meeting with ND today and yesterday? If Meyer goes to Florida, won't the Gators have to pay (I know he can bolt to ND at no cost) to buyout his deal with Utah?

Well, The Sticks Meyer sounded a little too weird for them.

I can just picture yesterday's meeting...

Meyer: "Sorry I couldn't get here any faster, getting flights out of Gainesville is a bitch. Which reminds me, you guys didn't fire Ty and automatically assume I'd take the job did you? Because I'm headed to UF."

ND Morons: "Uhhhhh....no. No, we didn't. We, uh, we value your opinion as a ND supporter, and we were just wondering what you thought of some of the candidates on our list to replace Ty. *Makes erasing motion* Here, what do you think of some of these guys?"

This isn't a done deal. The sources quoted by the article are UF sources. Both side's sources are claiming UM. This is from WNDU's website:

"Meyer is also coveted by Florida. The Times-Union newspaper in Jacksonville reported today that Meyer has been offered the Gators job and is expected to accept but two sources very close to the search process say that is not true and they fully expect Meyer to take the Notre Dame job if it's offered or if it already has been offered."

I'm not saying he won't end up at Florida, but until there is a press conference at either school, I wouldn't bet on anything.

Well, usually, we all *know* well in advance of a press conference, but I agree that it's probably not a done deal from either side. Still, ND has a lot to lose if they don't get him, and I, for one, would laugh my ass off if he went to UF - even if that meant UF would get better.

I just hope that when Bowden retires, someone worth while is out there, and we won't be in the position of having to settle for a retread of lesser candidate.

Yes and no. My understanding is he's not the only guy they've talked to, but he's the only one that has been a public spectacle and he is probably the first choice.

Hopefully he will go the press conference wearing a Notre Dame cap and then announce at the last second that he is choosing Florida and switch caps.

Meyer is playing Notre Dame like a fiddle. Ditto Stoops and Oklahoma.

Meyer is using the ND opening for a fatter contract from Florida. Stoops is using the Florida opening for a fatter contract from Oklahoma. Meyer will almost certainly move to Florida and Stoops has no intention of leaving OU.

Stoops is interested in getting a big raise this year because he doesn't feel they will be able to do as well next season. The Florida job opening just made his job easier.

Apparently so, as the UF deal is reported to be up to $1 million per year richer than ND's.

I think it's a crappy move at the time. I know there is alot of money there and he needs to get to work at Florida, but such a big deal is being made of what Utah has accomplished this year and this completly takes away from that.

Urban Meyer starts in the recreation of my two dads, starring Notre Dame and Flordia.

Notre Dame has to be Paul Reiser

I'm conceeding.

UM to UF.

I like the next rumored target, more than I would have liked Meyer, actually, but I think they have no prayer.

And I bet Kevin White loses his job this time.

More info: He really was ND's to lose and they lost him. Money was somewhat important, but ND also would not make a few exemptions on academic/recruiting issues.

They could try and make a play for Tedford, down at Cal.

The name's come up and I'd actually prefer him to Meyer, but with the lowball offer they gave Meyer, I think he's a pipe dream with his new extension at Cal.

I think they can still get a good coach, but it won't be a name that makes anybody go "wow. they are serious about this"

In 2001, Gruden to ND was closer to reality than people think. It was real close. But that ship has sailed.

Yeah, I've heard that. I just think he may be one of the few who feel more comfortable as a coordinator. It may come down to the salary difference. Carroll would make sure USC made a competitive offer for a coordinator, but they wouldn't match the head coach money he'd get elsewhere.

Again, it's just a guess. It just seems to me like USC works so well with Carroll as the enthusiastic and charismatic head coach and Chow as the "brains behind the operation" as it were.

Wait a minute. If it's a 'rumoured' target, why can't you just name it?

ND already fell on their face a while ago.
