Why did the AI sub Manning out?

I'm playing as the Giants in 2012. Eli Manning is coming off the best season of his career, setting all the records. He's never missed a game in nine years, his backups have thrown a grand total of 14 passes (some of them fake kicks, I think) during that time. Going into the fourth quarter, the Giants lead 38-10. Manning completes a short pass on second down, and on third down his backup is sacked. No mention of an injury in the log, nor is Manning injured following the game. KC has also subbed out its starting QB, one of the better ones in the league.

Now, it is likely a blowout sub-out the starters routine at work here.

However, the KC backup QB throws 4 TD passes of 40+ in the final 9 minutes (There's an onside kick in there, too.) and the game goes into OT.

Manning never returns! Nor does the KC starter, but that is what would happen in reality. Fortuneatley the Giant backup hands the ball off a lot and the offense grinds out a TD to win.

But why didn't Manning return? Sure seems like a major glitch in the substitution routine.

BTW, this wasn't my wildest game of this career. In a regular season game versus GB, the final 1:03 saw each team score 2 TDs, a 98 kick return by GB sandwiched between two long Manning TD passes, the game ending when Favre threw an 80 yard TD pass following a touchback on the kickoff.

Manning was already own his cell phone, thinking he was done for the day. He had his pads off and everything.

Maybe he had a bad experience with cake sniffers when he was young?

The KC starter was so bad (being that he wasn't able to get in the endzone) thats why he didn't return. The game probably does not allow for the starter to return (automatically) even if the game draws closer....

Isn't there some wacky rule in the NFL about not allowing a QB back in unless two backups are injured?

I think that's just for the #3 on the depth chart, he can't play unless the 1st two are hurt. QBs get rotated in and out all the time.

Sounds like FOF still (annoyingly) let's the AI make a QB switch during a series.

I've seen QBs get pulled for poor performance after leading a drive for several first downs.

Actually that is partially true. But the 3rd QB can enter the game in the 4th quarter even without and injury and the starter can return. If the 3rd QB enters the game before that and it's not because of an injury, then the 3rd QB must finish the game or something like that.

I am on a quest to show that the Dolphins can win the Super Bowl. Or should I say Front Office Bowl, with FOF2K7.

Yeah, as an addendum, this is why the Steelers were splitting Neil ODonnell out at WR when Kordell was in the game lined up at qb(during the brief "slash" period). I beleive at the time, Kordell was the 3rd qb on their depth chart, and the Steelers didnt want the potential problem of the refs disallowing ODonnell back onto the field.

As I said above, prior to this game his backups had thrown a total of 14 passes in 9 seasons, so this isn't an issue.

We'll just have to see if Jim fixes this little annoyance.
