$22 million essentialy guaranteed. Instead of calling it a signing bonus, why dont teams go ahead and guarantee the dollars in the first 3 years - making it a little easier on the cash flow ?

Well, can't they pro-rate the bonus over the whole 7 years? That makes it a little more cap friendly. Sure, they gotta pay more up front - but that's usually not a problem for most NFL teams - every franchise in the league is very profitable.

A little surprised at this with the emergence of Wayne and Stokley...both of which are younger than Harrison.

I would've thought the Colts might have wanted to save some of that money for somebody on the other side of the ball...but, then again...why bother worrying about D when you can score at will...I know, I know.

These guys are like the anti-Patriots. Stick a ton of money into a few good players and patchwork the rest. We'll see how it works out, but if the resign James too, my prediction is they will be in salary cap hell in 3-5 years.

Guaranteeing the money over three years would be a lot easier for the Irsays. They had to sell personal assets to resign Payton.

Cap hell in 3-5 years? I think they screwed the franchise when they resigned Payton. But what do you do? Let somebody else have him? It's a tough business.

Yes. I've heard that they are close to a deal for a new stadium (69,000 with lots of luxery boxes). They have trouble filling their 57,000 seat place now. So I'm not sure where the other 12,000 people (plus box patrons) are going to come from.

Payton I think you have to resign, but a 32 year old receiver, I don't think you do.

So we have a choice:
1) Believe the Irsays are morons, because after crying over money and begging for a new stadium they over-paid for a 32 year-old WR.

2) Or believe that the crying was over-stating the problem.

But how good would they be without Harrison taking all the double-teams and seeing better cornerbacks? And yes, even without this deal, they were going to be hurting with their cap in a few years, but it does make things worse. What will be funny, in a sad way, is that by the time the stadium gets built, the Colts will stink because of salary cap problems and attendance will be low.

But more emphasis on #2.

I think "cap hell" is a myth propogated by owners and GM's that:

1. Don't want to hold on to talent, because they're cheap and they want to pad their wallets for a few years.

2. Can't hold on to talent, because their organizations suck and nobody wants to play there.

Everybody has been saying that the Redskins are going to be in cap hell in 2-3 years, ever since Dan Snyder took over the team. It hasn't happened. It's not going to happen, because spending cash fixes cap problems. Rag on Danny-boy all you want, but he's not squeamish about spending money on his team.

The Irsay's are not broke. They are a bunch of lying maggots that aren't worth a QB like Payton Manning. It would have been poetic justice for Manning to have refused to sign, and left for another team... like Denver...

I think Harrison over Edge is a must.

With the Colts passing game, you can plug in any good RB and make him a 1000 yard runner.

Come on, are you actually gonna try stacking the line when 5 guys can beat you on any play?

While I don't know about Wayne, Stokely has pretty much stated he wants to stay in Indy for the rest of his career. He obviously knows he's in perhaps the best system thats fit for him

Anyways Bill Polian is one of the better Presidents in the league. He knows what he's doing. I believe he has better knowledge of the situation than any of us

The Colts Defense is improving. They're beginning to make turnovers like crazy as they now lead the league. They're also sacking the QB like crazy too.

It will be interesting to see what happens now. They have a couple OL that are due for contracts.

They will probably franchise James.

I'm glad they're keeping Harrison. The team is looking to be pretty good for a few more years. With the defense looking much better that last 3 or 4 weeks, it'll be exciting to watch this team play.
