College Visitation Day Questions
I am scheduled to visit Miami of Ohio University and University of Dayton next month. I can't think of any good, important questions I should ask. From those of you with college experience, what questions should I ask when I go. Anything from the dorms to the surrounding community.. help me
Thanks in advance. |

what I said at the OOTP forums:
male/female ratio - average temperature - alcohol policy. Trust me- those are 3 things you will care about. ![]() |

Ask about how they assign roommates in the dorms, and what the policy is for changing roommates if necessary.

I went to 3 visitation days... they were boring as hell. Don't ask questions because they'll lie out of their ass. If you know someone there, try and hang out with them for a little while. I stayed with my future brother in law while he was at school, and I learned more about the school than I did of any school I "visited." 5 years later, I got a degree from a school I really loved, and I never really visited it once.

If at all possible, talk to someone you know (friend of a friend, etc) who actually goes there. They'll give you an honest evaluation of the school. Official visitations are basically sales pitches.

Or you could just ask them what time all the girls usually get back from Hot Girl Camp. Last edited by mckerney : 12-09-2004 at 02:35 AM. |

Overnight visits are the key. They will assign you a student to stay with (these tend to be people who have a positive view of the school). But, you learn a lot more hanging out with students than by listening to admissions dept. propaganda.

When you're at Miami, don't ask any questions. Just shut up and enjoy the scenery.

Ok..I'm in King Library as I write this..I may be able to help..
Don't say Miami of Ohio University...it isn't. It's Miami University. If people are confused, then add Ohio..we were a university before Florida was even a state (est 1808). Beyond that, ask probing, insightful questions such as: Why did they change the name of "First Run" to "Brickstreet". Why did they tear down the Watertower? What is the average length of time before a freshman (they pittifully call them 1st years) spends on campus before engaging in intercourse with some of the most beautiful coeds in the country? (This question works even better if you are a coed.) Some real questions...If you're interested in the b-school, ask about that. They've changed their admissions policy and made it much more stringent. Other colleges in the school have programs where they will accept you into the major straight out of H.S. if you have great credentials. Ask about that, and find out what their limits are. Ask about the stupid ass car policy (freshman are rarely permited to have them). Ask about the mandatory year in a university dorm. (Not a bad thing, as most friendships are formed in that first year environment.) The food is great, the campus is stunning, the women, well...geez...it's a utopia for that. |

all they ever want to talk about on tours is food. youll know nothing about the school, but will know they have a buffet, and cereal is always available.
