Jennifer Government. As I was reading the book, I couldn't help but think how awesome of a movie it would be.

Book you would like to see made into a movie
The charlie and the chocolate factory thread sparked this idea.
I would love to see the book "A Brave New World" made into a movie. Also, "See Spot Run" would be very interesting. Jane would be sexed up a bit by Angelina Jolie. |

I would think that perhaps the Dictionary or Thesaurus would be hard books to make into movies....probably wouldn't make too much either.

I'd say something by Heinlein, but not after what happened to Starship Troopers.

I think that they did make a version of "Brave New World" in the '70's. But it would be worth revisiting now.
There were plans to make "Confederacy of Dunces" but apparently it fell through. I am both relieved and disappointed. I like to see a good treatment of it but I have not faith in hollywood to do so. Will Farrell (spelling?) was up for the lead role. |

The Dragonlance series. The first three "Chronicles" for starters would make an amazing trilogy. Maybe too large to make into a movie though?

Brave New World might be hard to tackle in a couple of scenes. Wasn't there something about children being naked and having sex during recess?

Dola-
I wouldn't mind seeing Stephen King's "The Gunslinger" turned into a movie. The ending isn't very "hollywood", of course, so the question would then become: do you keep on going with the entire Dark Tower series? I wouldn't mind it, myself. |

mckerney: I never have understood why they haven't made a straight movie out of one of Heinlien's early books. It seems like it writes itself.
I would love to see Charlie Wilson's War be made into a movie. I have never read a more interesting adventure/war book and its all true. The story of our involvement in Afghanistan in the 1980's could also sell very well right now. |

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series, but that would be a lot of movies. Practically, it is an impossibility.

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
Icewind Dale Trilogy (and all of them, but that would be a lot of movies. ) by R.A. SalvatoreOcenaspace, Chronospace or Coyote by Allen Steele Timothy Zahn's Star Wars trilogy would make perfect Episodes 7, 8 and 9 (but it will never happen) |

An updated treatment for Shogun would be nice, one movie would be rater impossible though.
I am afraid any movie version of Ender's Game would be turned into a kids movie. But if done somewhat seriously, it would be great. |

Bringing Down the House (the Vegas story, not the Steve Martin/Queen Latifah movie)
Kevin Spacey's production company is supposedly working on it (with Spacey to play the role of "Mickey"), but who knows if it will ever actually come about. |

I was thinking Shogun too. But it would have to be at least a trilogy to give it justice. I want to see the old version (made for TV?). Was it any good?

Trouble is, as I recall, every Grisham book turned into a movie has been utterly butchered, and is painful to watch. The one and only movie (though it'd have to be more than one if you did all 10 short books - Corwin's saga could work in a 3 hour movie, perhaps) I'd kill for is Roger Zelazny's Amber series....if they kept to the book(s). I dunno, it might be doable, considering the sheer amount of useless drivel that's in those books (particularly the last what...three). You could condense the fuck out of those books, prolly get it into a trilogy. |

I've always wondered why no one has done a modern, serious movie based on one or more of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories.

So many possibilities...
The fantasy geek in me thinks that Elric by Michael Moorcock could be translated pretty well into a movie. Red Harvest by Daschell Hammett I can't believe hasn't been made into one, unless I missed it somewhere. Agree with Poe also, and Lovecraft to boot..some of his stories would be good although it'd be very hard to get the feel across I think. Could come up with tons I think, but this'll do for now. |

I'd like to see some of Crichton's books re-made into GOOD movies.
Congo, Sphere and Timeline. seconding the Dragonlance recommendations...but damn if they wouldn't butcher that.

They could stop after the first six, I mean that is when the series jumped the proverbial shark. They could just break the world at the end. It would be a lot less painless than the last couple of books. |

Hmmmm....
I've always wanted a well done Red Storm Rising, but since the Cold War is over.... I think that Niven and Pournelle's works are brillant and easily adaptable. The Mote in God's Eye is genius, and Lucifer's Hammer is just one of the best books ever. I especially love the post-comet world is created. I'd like to see that sort of idea in a film, where the comet hits in the first 30 minutes, and the meat of the film is the aftermath. I especially think that the scene when the guy is driving his truck along the railroad tracks, and can see nothing but water in every direction, all the way up to the track, would be especially cinematic. I also love the scene where the diabetic professor knows he'll die in the post-crash world, so instead of looting and rioting, he spends his time sealing up the greatest books of all time and securing them for a future generation. It's amazingly good stuff, and I think that it would translate very well. I still want to see just one good, well done Lovecraft story. Not the slasher type of horror, but a Lovecraftian psychological horror that is all about mood and pacing instead of slash and scare. -Anxiety
