I have a Del Inspiron 8200. I'll never get a Dell laptop again. It's a piece of crap that has had major problems twice in 3 years.

Mine is a desktop...Demension 3000, I believe.

So many doors that were long closed are now open to me. The future is now...or around the 22nd when the computer is shipped. Whatever.

Now I have to buy a monitor switcher thingie, a hub, and some other stuff. But one purchase should be a GAME!!!

What will it be?

I ordered the dell 4700 on friday, and it should be here within the week. Free 17" lcd upgrade was a big selling point for me, as was price. Glad to be getting into the 3ghz range finally.

If it's a tricked out computer with all the bells and whistles? Definitely Half-Life2 .

I have the Dell Inspiron 8500 (for about the last year) and I've had zero problems with it so far. It's wonderful.

Mine is the Demension 4700, not a 3000. I changed it, because the rebate is bigger, and so is the monitor.

WHOOT!

I ordered my computer Friday night Sach, and picked the 2 day option. It supposedly should be here this afternoon! I think you will get yours way before the 22nd, unless you had some parts included that they said would delay shipping, or picked amish shipping

It was around the 22nd for the original order, but after thinking about it, I ordered the 4700 instead. Basically I'm getting the system that I wanted, but moving from a 15'' flat panel to a 17'' for about $25. Can't beat that!

I'll have to check on the delivery date now, but I'm terribly excited!

cool

i recommend you do a clean install

format, and then install windows xp and the drivers only..

dell comes with alot of stuff you really dont need, so a clean install is the way to go...

I got the 4700 for pretty much the same reason, the 17' monitor. Also cause it was actually able to take a graphics card, i hate integrated video. Wishing now that i had maybe gone for 1 gig of ram, but 512 should fill my needs for now.

Which upgrades did you do?
I got the 128 meg video card, the 16X dvd burner(might be an 8 speed, not positive), 512 megs of ram, and the 80 gig hard drive.

A buddy of mine told me that 512 is more than adequate for most needs, but that $100 was a pretty decent deal and if I had the money I should go for the upgrade.

EDIT: Upgrades...I upgraded to the 3.0ghz processor, the 1GB of RAM, and a DVD ROM. The 80GB HD was free, as was the 17'' monitor. Plus, I believe I got a 2 year onsite for free! I can't see myself ever having to use and onsite, but now that I have it, maybe I'll have them come out and backup data or something. Maybe it will be Hornsmanic!!

Man, do I love this new machine!

Loaded up EHM:FE with full databases, all leagues extended stats, and full graphics. Simming a day takes seconds, where I could go make a sandwich before.

I have enough space to load up all of my old games...and see which one's run. You know which one's I'm talking about, GB!

For instance, I loaded up Dungeon Keeper 2 last night. I'd forgotten what a fun little game that was. And Simcity 3000, and Civ 3!

One question...does anyone know how to send in the mail in rebate? I kinda need that $200!

Ah, those games. Wow. That was a while ago. I was just reading where someone has remade The Lost Admiral and The Perfect General II.

Gongrats on the new computer, by the way!

A stamp and an envelope would be a good place to start.
