Defense adjustment!

12/30/2004 Next season: Defense adjustment
Next season we will make one of the last few in a long series of adjustments to the balance between midfield, defenders and keepers: the defenders will matter slightly more for the total defense ratings, and the keeper will matter slightly (very slightly) less for the total defense ratings (the upgrading of defenders being bigger than the downgrading of the keeper). The overall effect of this is that defenders become more important in the game engine. This change will take effect starting next season (January 31).

I hope you're knocking on wood. I think one more change like that would be the end for me.

This sucks for keeper trainers. Prices are already borderline on it being feasible. I, for one, feel like this is fixing a problem that doesn't exist.

personally, i think keepers should have the lesser affect on defense like they are doing, but maybe a higher affect on team organization or show their affects more on set piece defense or something like that.

Aw nuts. There go my hopes of picking up a second brilliant defender for $2M.

I still say they need to separate keeper and defender ratings but I've been saying that for almost as long as I've been whining that they need to squish the qualification weeks into 1 so that 5th and 6th don't benefit more than 2nd thru 4th.

Agree X 2.

Although, I don't really consider it goalkeeper trainers getting screwed as much as defenders trainers finally getting some lovin'. I always thought goalkeepers had too much effect on defensive ratings and far too many people were going with the great goalkeepers-and-three-shit-defenders route. But then I also think they need to lower strikers' effect on wing attacks and wingers' effect on midfield since I think too many team are still obsessed with playing an inner midfielder as toward middle winger.

I don't think it's as much a matter of lowering strikers' effect on wing attacks- they don't do a ton as it is. But they need to either eliminate or greatly diminish the effect of TM wingers.

I definately agree with both lowering the affect of winger towards the middle and strikers on wing attack. but if they lower the striker affect, i would like to see them raise the wing back effect slightly.

All I know is that they have really bad timing. I need to sell off my soon to be WC keeper to fund my training switch, and upgrades to my team. This happening now just plain sucks if you ask me, otherwise I don't care all that much, I'll have my 7.5-8 star keeper and build up my defenders after I get my new training scheme going.

They do a lot more than they should. You can have a decent attack on the naked side of a 3-4-3 with good enough strikers and a very good one on the side with an inner midfielder playing toward middle and that just shouldn't happen. I don't have a problem with people playing those formation, they just shouldn't be allowed to have their cake and eat it too.

Dowgrading keepers.....again..... well, I'm glad I'm out of that racket. It's nice that they're helping out defenders. . .wish I had some decent ones.

I'll echo the above sentiments about now treating the WTM route and giving some love to wing backs. Wing is now nice, but just not necessary for any team. It's a bonus. What other position can now be considered a bonus?
