I'm not buying the USC/Pete Carroll hypocrisy.

Carroll says on Sugar Bowl halftime interview that he respects the BCS and it is the system we live by. Sure wasn't saying that last year, was he? He wants it both ways, trashing the BCS and refusing the accept the results when his team was the odd one out, and embracing it this year.

And speaking of embracing it, ABAC had a shot of Leinart hugging the BCS trophy. Where was his F*ck the BCS t-shirt he wore last year in an interview after the BCS results were announced?

They may well be the best team in the country, and they may well have been last year, but f*ck them. I hope Oklahoma destroys them.

By Carroll and Leinart's logic, Auburn, if it beats VT, will have a legit claim for co-national champs, and Tubberville should crash the award show if USC wins to remind them of it.

What's Carroll going to say? "Uh, no the BCS sucks and it shouldn't count, but still vote us No. 1 if we win tomorrow."

Auburn was No. 3 in both polls when the BCS selections were made. Remember, last season, USC was No. 1 in both polls. It's a little different situation. But I will agree that if the AP votes Auburn to be No. 1 after the games have been played that Auburn should be split champions like USC was last season. I just can't see that happening though if USC wins tomorrow night.

The difference is, a year ago, the consensus #1 team in the nation was left out of the title game. This year, an undefeated consensus #3 was left out of the title game. Carroll had a legitimate gripe last year. Auburn? They can make the case that they belong in the Orange Bowl, but it's comparing, if you'll forgive the pun, apples and oranges. Auburn can say they deserve the chance to play. USC can say "We were #1, we were shafted for the nat'l championship game, and we won our BCS game, so we have a claim on the national title."

Auburn doesn't have that leg to stand on.

No dice. USC was not consensus #1. They were AP #1. Most of the BCS components had USC #3, which is why they did not play in the championship game.

Either the system works and should be respected or it should not. What Carroll is saying is that the BCS should only be respected when it gives him the result he wants.

I am not comparing Auburn's situation and USC's. I am comparing what Carroll and USC said about the BCS last year to what they are saying this year. It is hypocritical to say the system sucks when it doesn't give you what you want and then turn around and say it is great when it gives you what you want.

The BCS #3 was left out in both situations.

Please point out the school that would be happy with being ranked 3rd when they are the AP #1.

Please point out the school that would say "Well, we're #3 even though we're unbeaten."

Care to make a bet that Auburn will be bashing the system after tonights game and laying claim to the National Title?

Yes they were, but the No. 1 and BCS Trophy HAS to go to the winner of the BCS Championship game.

The Coaches Poll and the AP having them #1 bolsters the argument that USC was consensus #1 last year before the bowls.

Aye- he's going to be self serving, as anyone else would be.

That simply depends on the definition of 'consensus'. The BCS rankings, a combination of several components, including the two polls you mentioned, had them ranked #3. I would not call that a consensus, except of the 'human' polls.

True, lol. And I understand it perfectly. I just think everyone should remember what USC people were saying about the BCS last year. It is one thing imho to say that you think your team was really the best in the nation. I think it is a little out there to say F*ck the BCS one year and then accept the trophy the next, if they win. As for me, I'm hoping Oklahoma puts a whipping on them, after Auburn puts a whipping on VT.

What has that got to do with anything? USC hadn't won the BCS Championship game prior to the selection of the BCS Championship competitors, so their position at #1 in the coaches' poll is automatically invalidated for consideration of whether or not they should be in the BCS Championship game?

I think you lost me.

A year later and he's still bitter his team didn't get sole possession of the championship? Sheesh...give it up. As a UCLA fan, I would have a heart attack if we even got half of a championship. Be happy for what you got.

Not to threadjack or anything, but its amazing that both teams has heisman winner QB's that will suck in the NFL. Both are overrated QB's which brings me to the problem of scouting for drafts. Some people ask, Why are there so many good QB's that come out of the 3rd or 4th or 5th rounds? Its because the college teams today, and throughout history, have been stacked with great talent surrounding the qbs. You look at Miami and Dorsey, Palmer with USC and I would be glad to bet 100 bucks that Leinhart and White are at best OK QBs. Just an observation...go on.

Sharpieman: I think that White is very talented. He throws an extremely accurate deep ball, and has really improved his ability to find the open man, and read defenses. I dont think he will be a good NFL QB, not because of talent, but because he has already has both knees replaced, so I think alot of teams might see that as a liability. I think that alot of QB's drafted lately have been alot more agile and mobile in the pocket, so I think that hurts white alot too.
