can we get a further ruling on the TO-surgery. From what I remember from the other post it's basically either the same surgery you had or very similar to one you had, with the same doctor. Is there any possible way that he'll be able to play in the SB?

As much experience as terpkristin may have had with this type surgery, I don't think she's in any kind of position to make a ruling on this issue.

For one, she's not a doctor (well, at least not a medical doctor

), and secondly, TO has world-class training facilities with world-class trainers and he can dedicate 8 hours per day to his rehab efforts. TOTALLY different situation.

plus, he was running around today, and jumping and chest bumping. with two more weeks, he could be good enough to go. not at the normal TO level though.

true true. but if she says it's a 4-month recovery then I think we can rule TO out of the SB, because no matter what he's got at his disposal you can't cut it down that much I wouldn't think.

Just looking for her opinion on it anyway, since I think we can agree she knows more than the majority of us about it.

I've heard of pro athletes coming back from ACL injuries in 6 weeks or so. For any kind of amateur those injuries are almost always 3-4 months. So it definitely is possible to cut it down that much with appropriate facilities and personel at your disposal.

Pro athletes CAN get back from ACL injuries in 2 months, whereas us normal humans take 6-8 months minimum before a doctor even lets them consider it. Regardless, ANY injury, particularly soft tissue (ligaments and such), takes about 12 weeks to set, so even those pro athletes who push the line and try to come back after 6 really run the risk of f'ing themselves up. The joint, whatever it may be, is still weak and the surgery itself hasn't fully healed. But, cortisone is a wonderful drug and I assume many get by the pain with that and heavy taping/bracing.

That said. When I asked one of the fellows at Myerson's office, he said "no way is he coming back." But it seems that TO and the Eagles' medical staff have decided it's worth a risk. In any event, he'll be nowhere near "normal 100% TO."

I'm not sure what surgery he had done. The reports I've read said he had a plate and 2 screws inserted, which suggest to me a break, probably of the lower fibula (the small skinny bone in your lower leg). You just don't usually do that for a standard "high ankle sprain." TO and I didn't have even remotely similar surgeries. I had my ankle fused (among other things), meaning I'll never even run again. Myerson would have tried to prevent that for certain, so that's not really a question. Without knowing what exactly he did, it's hard to know what surgery was eventually done. If it was a simple break and a MILD sprain, 6 weeks is enough time to have the break knit reasonably well and have the ligament in question probably heal enough that with bracing/taping he'd be ok.

If he injured it like I injured my ankle the first time, I'd be shocked if he came back. I tried to play on my ankle after taking way too much ibuprofen. In addition to seeing 3 soccer balls, I was super-nauseous, and my ankle still throbbed (ok, so I'm not the brightest crayon in the box). But if he had the same injury, I know for me taping and bracing dind't work at all, my ankle was still able to roll underneath me, despite bracing and taping. Hence the reason for the first of my four ankle surgeries...

Long answer short: I'd be surprised, but if it was a simple break and mild high ankle sprain, yeah, he could be back.
