Not safe for work(if your name is Damon Jones)

This really needed its own thread.

Can someone post a animated gif of the scoreboard of that game?

I thought the object of the game was to get on Sportscenter. Are you trying to say the goal is to outscore the opponent?

For Lebron to get on sportscenter.. all's he has to do is sit on the bench.. and they'll still show him..(seriously, even when he was out, they managed to show him sitting on the bench, every game)

OK, I'm going to assume that the Cavs lost the game shown above, but isn't that worthy of being in the highlights? Isn't it still an impressive dunk? Just because the Cavs lost (apparently), we shouldn't see this? I'm not reading any of this right, am I?

LeBron does make some great highlight plays, but you can't overlook that he's the reason the Cavs are winning. Yes, the Cavs lost that game, but to a superior Miami team, and LeBron did his part with 31 points, 10 assists to 2 turnovers, and 3 steals. At just 20 LeBron is already one of the most complete players in the game, averaging more than 40 minutes a night and is in the top 6 for both scoring and assists, while also being #2 in the league in steals, and also grabbing 7 boards a night.

And perhaps the most impressive part of that play is LeBron baiting Jones into thinking he could pass it into the corner, then going up to make the steal that lead to the fast break.

Good video. It's hard not to like James. It's amazing how much of a better overall player James is compared to Bryant or Garnett at age 20.

It's amazing how good he is at 20 years old compared to them right now. Bryant scores 2 more points a game, but James has a better FG% (.496 to .406), and about one more assist, rebound and steals per game. Plus James seems to be a much better teammate.

Precisely. Even when Jordan came along, everyone marveled at his talent and skills, but in the end, he was just simply the third best player in the league scoring 50 points a game while his team was getting pwned by Bird and the Celtics.

Now, you don't need to win to be considered great as long as you look good doing it. Lebron is a great player and it's nice to admire dunks like that, but I'd be more impressed with the dunk if it happened in a win.

I used to love SportsCenter, but now I can hardly bear to watch more than 10 minutes of it. All fluff, what with their Budweiser Hot Seat and their Coors Light 6 Pack and what have you. Now if I ever want to see actual highlights and insight of games, i just flip it to ESPNews. MUCH more informative, IMO.

As for Lebron, he is amazing. I must say I had my doubts when he entered, mostly pertaining to his shot, but no more. He is simply having a stunning season. Fun to watch.

He's a pretty awesome player. kcchief19, I agree with you somewhat, but what other team is just owning the whole league and the Cavs right now? There is no one like the Celtics to be talking about.

The Cav's are winning, they're only a half game behind the Pistons. It's not they are a last place team with a good player, which seems to remind me of McGrady.

Regardless of how the team is doing, does it make dunks like the above any less impressive? If a guy's team is down by 20 points in the 4th quarter, should he think to himself, "Uh oh, we're losing, and I don't want to take away highlights from the other team's grand victory. Maybe I should do a layup."

Clearly, I'm misunderstanding something here. I'll move along now.

Personally, I dont think he's trying to take away from the Peter North status facial, I just think the thread has grown beyond Lebron's amazing physical talents to a "how does Lebron's team stack up?" thread. But then again, I'm drunk off beer/JD, so whatever I think and/or say has very little, if any, merit.

thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard, which is the lated in a long line of things pertaining to lebron james said here. i can remember several thread with the jealous old white men club bashing him after his several brushes with ineligilbility in high school, saying he was a sure fire bust and what not. he had every eye in the country on him and he's turned into one of the top 5 players in the game at TWENTY. i'd much rather have him over kobe, mcgrady, or, really, anyone not named duncan, o'neal, or garnett.

Honestly, i can't think of anyone in the nba i'd rather start a team with then lebron..

Garnett is starting to get edgy.. O' Neal is getting on in years and injury issues

Duncan is good, but he's 7-8 years older then lebron at this point, so it only makes sense to go with the youngest possible player/star

The most amazing thing about LeBron is that he is definitely LEADING the Cavs into the playoffs.

Not only is he an athletic freak, but he has got superior court vision and basketball wit. He's like a combination of a young Jordan and a young Magic. It's great to think of how good he'll be 3-4 seasons down the line.

People also don't say much for how mature he is off the court. All the hype, the pressure, the attention and he says the right thing all the time. The kid is just flat out awesome.

Time to update for 2006.

Unlike the Damon Jones dunk in the first post in this thread, the Cavs won this game, and Lebron had a man-sized triple double(44/12/11) as well.

I love seeing someone get dunked on, maybe even more than seeing an underdog getting smacked down. It is still the most "in-your-face-bitch" play in sports.

I think the safety laying out the receiver coming over the middle is right up there too.

Missed this thread the first time around. I guess I'm so over basketball that I fail to see what's so impressive about either of those dunks. You've seen one slam dunk, you've seen them all. I think Spud Webb was the last time I've truly been wowed by a dunk.

I don't even think the two defenders were really made to look bad - on the first one, the guy realized he had no chance to defend and just got out of the way, and on the second, the guy was in transition and tried to draw an offensive foul. I didn't see either guy actually challenge the dunk and get beat. If that's what you were going for, I see college basketball highlights that show better "facials" (ewww) than these on a nightly basis.

Yep. Dunks and home runs - the two most over-rated plays in sports.

I played all four years of high school, earning three Varsity letters, and played in two intramural leagues in college, a "regular" league and an under-6-foot league. To be honest, I dominated the under-6-foot league. I have no idea how many triple-doubles I got in that one, but it was a pretty regular thing, considering I ran the point on offense, but in that league, given my long arms and SkyDog abilities back in the day, played pretty much exclusively 4 and 5 on defense.

I don't follow basketball as closely as I do football and baseball, simply because of timing. The season starts during football season, gets heated during the time around signing and the unveiling of the Junior classes, and peaks (college) during Spring Training or (pro) the time I'm at summer camp with kids. However, I've coached some middle school ball, and some high school rec and church league ball. I definitely have more all-around technical hands-on knowledge of basketball than any other sport.

Figure this is a good thread to post this in, since it originally had a "players are more interested in looking good than winning" feel.

Quote:
Rookies Nate Robinson and Channing Frye will compete in tonight's rookie/sophomore game at All-Star festivities in Houston. But the main attraction is tomorrow when the 5-9 Robinson, who jumps like he's bounding off a trampouline, competes in the slam-dunk competition.

Robinson practiced an array of acrobatic slams at the end of practices the last few days instead of shooting jumpers. He was 0-for-8 vs. Toronto.

LeBron's a great player.

Too bad he won't be winning the Central or the East anytime in the next 5+ years....

Doesn't every team make it in the East? If he was in the West he would have no chance. 11-12 vs. the West, 20-9 vs. the East.

One of my all-time favorite teenage moments happened at YoungLife's Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado. Craig Ehlo was (is still?) a board member in Cobb County, GA, and he was out visiting the camp the same week that I was there with kids. This was 4 or 5 years after he'd retired, I think. One of my guys recognized him, ran up to him, and in an obviously star-struck voice said:

"Wow!!! Hey, you're Craig Ehlo! Man, it's WAYYYY cool to meet you. I have a poster on my bedroom wall of Michael Jordan dunking over you!!!"

Neither were as physically ready as Lebron is at age 20. But Lebron isnt quite at Kobe level yet. But by 26 he'll be past what Kobe was at 26, sans the titles probably
