Me again, trying to upgrade...
I have $4.4M CDN right now, and would like to upgrade something. I just bought new trainees, so I don't need to upgrade those.
I run a 4-4-2, with these guys being my starting lineup: Goalie: Dhirendra Prakash TSI = 2 580 , 24 years, solid form Has wretched experience and wretched leadership abilities Stamina: inadequate Keeper: passable Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous Winger: wretched Defending: wretched Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: poor Central Defenders: Nils Celentano [1 accumulated booking] TSI = 3 780 , 22 years, solid form Has poor experience and weak leadership abilities [Head] Stamina: solid Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: wretched Passing: poor Winger: wretched Defending: formidable Scoring: poor Set Pieces: inadequate Ola Gustavsson TSI = 5 190 , 21 years, inadequate form Has wretched experience and wretched leadership abilities Stamina: solid Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: poor Passing: poor Winger: inadequate Defending: outstanding Scoring: poor Set Pieces: weak Wingbacks: Franz Schmidtke TSI = 5 760 , 21 years, solid form Has wretched experience and poor leadership abilities Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: wretched Passing: wretched Winger: passable Defending: formidable Scoring: weak Set Pieces: poor Peter Björklund TSI = 4 950 , 21 years, passable form Has wretched experience and weak leadership abilities Stamina: passable Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: poor Passing: wretched Winger: passable Defending: outstanding Scoring: weak Set Pieces: poor Winger: Allan Beardsley TSI = 4 930 , 24 years, solid form Has inadequate experience and poor leadership abilities Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: poor Passing: wretched Winger: formidable Defending: passable Scoring: poor Set Pieces: passable Midfielders: I have another excellent, but his form is inadequate right now. Anders Cederander TSI = 600 , 23 years, passable form Has wretched experience and wretched leadership abilities Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: solid Passing: poor Winger: weak Defending: poor Scoring: poor Set Pieces: inadequate Nunzio Guasti [1 accumulated booking] TSI = 2 040 , 26 years, weak form Has poor experience and weak leadership abilities Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: formidable Passing: poor Winger: poor Defending: poor Scoring: poor Set Pieces: passable Maximillian Karasev TSI = 1 210 , 29 years, passable form Has inadequate experience and poor leadership abilities [Technical] Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: excellent Passing: inadequate Winger: wretched Defending: poor Scoring: poor Set Pieces: inadequate Forwards: Jorge Fontana [1 accumulated booking] TSI = 2 010 , 27 years, passable form Has weak experience and poor leadership abilities Stamina: excellent Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: weak Passing: inadequate Winger: weak Defending: poor Scoring: excellent Set Pieces: inadequate Martin Stanfield TSI = 860 , 28 years, weak form Has poor experience and poor leadership abilities [Powerful] Stamina: excellent Keeper: wretched Playmaking: poor Passing: weak Winger: wretched Defending: inadequate Scoring: solid Set Pieces: solid -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, what makes most sense to upgrade? I was thinking goalie? |

Keeper, definitely.
EDIT -- Nevermind the rest, I'm just not very quick today.

What exactly are you training because all of those guys you listed are too old to be trainees.

Defenders. Those guys are from when I first started hattrick (could only afford inadequates). I don't want to sell them all and start over with starters, so I just upgraded my B squad trainees. |

I would go with a forward. Keeper is clearly your worst player; however, since you run a 4-4-2 and your four best players are all defenders, your defense should be your strongest unit. Both of your forwards are old and don't have much experience. You should replace them before they start to lose skills and thus market value.

how good are the trainees you got? I'd spend half that on a keeper and the other on midfield...
Actually, i think i'd buy 6 more trainees, dump your current guys and run a 5-4-1 |

Took me a day or two to get to this thread, but oh well. It looks like you need midfield help more than anything. A good keeper is nice, but you've already got a halfways decent defense (presumably what you train, tho none of your players are great trainee age). Go get a cheap excellent keeper and you should be good to go. Buying a cheap keeper isn't too hard these days provided you have a little patience- just look for either a guy who isn't too old (23 or younger is my preference) and either has weak+ experience or has a high value for his level using the keeper valuation tool.
I'd also consider selling your guys and getting younger trainees of similar skills (19yo formidables and outstandings). But that requires a halfway decent judgement of the marketplace. Float all of your older guys for the "if someone gave me this cash right now, I'd be happy" price and hope someone bites on a couple of your guys in the next couple of weeks. If that's the case, then replace them with younger guys. Defense training is slow enough, you don't need it taking even longer because your guys are 3 and 4 years outside training age. Then, look at upgrading that midfield. It's the most important thing in the game and you're manning it with your worst players. Sell Karasev before he gets too much older, if you can still sell him. And replace Cederander. With the rest of your team, you should be trotting out formidable or higher middies. Sure, the thing these days is to get ones with high secondaries. But, what that also means is that you can score a naked formidable or outstanding on the real cheap if you shop around (set a goal price- bookmark any who are under that price and follow them, waiting until one ends in the price range you're looking in). Put a couple of higher middies next to Guasti and you'll be surprised how quickly your team perks up. As always, buy young as you might want to keep guys around for a while. SI

Ok, thanks for all the advice. Looks like I really need to upgrade my strater trainees, get an excellent keeper or better forward, and sell Karasev for another younger midfielder.
