The Grammys...

Uh, I have a real issue with the Grammy's seeming "overnight" embrace of hip-hop. I mean, I'm sure I should be applauding that they've decided to get with the times. But lord knows, I just feel dirty watching all these old people in suits sitting there jamming, knowing they're just not up on this.

Okay that..and what the HELL is Gwen Stefani wearing?

I like the Maroon 5 guy's voice. I can't help it. It's smooth. I'm just tired of those same damn songs..it's like "can we get a new CD already?" I hate this awards show a year later, thing.

What's the deal with having Maroon 5 and Black Eyed Peas together. Thta's soooo annoying. Ugh, damn producers.

I guess she must've gained it back. I noticed that, too. She must've lost it for some of the roles she was doing in movies or whatever.

Is it me or does country starlet Gretchen Wilson just look so trashy, but in a "let's go out to my truck and do the nasty" sorta way?

Didn't see her, unless she was the one singing with Skynyrd? She does strike me as a dirty girl, yes.

She hasn't been on yet, except for that brief thingy where they said she'd be on later. It's just something I've always thought when I saw her.

Green day the only performance I care about, pretty impressive. I wish they would have played longer though, somewhere inside of me I was almost hoping they'd play "Jesus of Suburbia"

That was Gretchen Wilson singing Free Bird wth Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I thought that southern rock medley was the coolest thing I've seen on the Grammies in a long time.

I gotta say, it's really neat that Queen Latifah has reinvented herself as a jazz singer. Her CD is really solid and I expect good things from her. What's wacky is, she'd have to be the first artist to do something crazy like win in two totally different categories or genres of music (not like say, rock and pop..) She won a best rap single Grammy in 1994. She's nominated for Best Jazz Album this year, I don't know if she'll actually win it, because well..there are so many other accomplished artists out there in that genre.

But still, it's impressive.

As for what Kanye does that others don't, just listen to the wide variety of stuff the guy has produced. Like..it takes a certain kind of music lover to enjoy what he does. But his stuff is pretty solid and then, his production - sampling and arrangements - are just hot.

I dunno. Just is.

He sang "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" with Elvin Bishop and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He also played smokin' solo on Sweet Home Aabama.

It bugs me, but no more than the country thing did. It would only bug me more because I think an overwhelming part of audience have NO IDEA what the hell is going on.

That and the whole black church skit thing, is a bit much for me. I dunno, feels kinda wrong. But then, I dunno. Might be the wackiest outreach for some folks who'd never consider listening to it. So...whatever works.

Yeah, i didn't mean the song per se, just the whole theatrics of it, way over the top and uneeded IMO. I also thought the "group" singing of across the universe was about the biggest abortion of a Lennon song i have ever seen, why the fuck do they find it neccesary to put 100 people together?

Gwen is wearing way too much for someone wearing so little. And Alicia is in the perfect position for some booty duty.

The label is probably delaying a new album if anything. Songs About Jane is still selling pretty well, and they're going to milk it for all it's worth. I would think later this year is probably the time for an album (which will have made it 3 from the last release).

I can't say I'm too nuts about Maroon 5 personally. I listend to them when they were's Kara's Flowers* and that album was a couple solid tunes and a couple of forgettable ones. "Soap Disco" was quality.

*Kara's Flowers was a foursome. They added a second guartist and boom, Maroon 5.

It's kinda hard to explain. But he's got 'IT'. He's got a feel for whatever 'IT' is. And seeing as how he's successfully produced different R&B songs for different artists (Alicia Keys anyone?), he certainly 'gets' what 'IT' is.

Me? I just appreciated his CD, and the way he flows.

Fair enough....

as someone who doesnt listen to much rap, to me it just sounded the same as the tupac strain or eminem [reach] strain (not the snoop or Jarule strain)

For me, the Grammys only confirmed one thing: Why I haven't bought (or stolen) music in years.
