Freddie Mitchell part III (truly in full glory)

Doesn't this guy have a clue when to leave well enough alone?

So after the game, Mitchell says, To me, the Patriots are not that good.", but then in response to Belichick saying Mitchell wasn't very good, "I see. It takes a big man to talk after the game. Why didn't he say anything before the game? That shows what kind of guy he is.''

I think a lot of us hate when players/coaches give those typical responses. This is a breathe of fresh air, IMO.

I think he meant after the game, exclusively, as opposed to both before AND after. And I think you know that.

I think it's already a given that he wont be in Philly and certainly not anywhere near NE. When the Vikings trade Moss, I bet they go for him

The funny thing about the Moss rumor is that it seems to be a big story nationally, but there really isn't that much about it locally. A trade seems very unlikely, especially when there's a very good chance the team will be sold soon.

So it's unlikely ownership is going to make a move anytime soon, and everyone in the front office and coaching staff is on a one year contract, with their jobs likely on the line based on their performance next season. Why then, would they want to make a move when there's no chance they would get equal value in return for Moss.

It's too bad we can't get Moss and Mitchell on the same team. That would be hilarity at its finest.

But why would Belichick be talking about Mitchell before the game? Belichick was likely just responding to a question about Mitchell, he really wouldn't have any reason to talk about him in any other situation. It's not like Freddie was talking about Bethel Johnson before the game.

People -- and lots of them -- have been talking about Freddie Mitchell for about three or four weeks now. This has not happened since his debut in the league, of course, for any reason at all, certainly not his play.

Who's the idiot here?

BB did talk about Mitchell before the game.

"Greg Lewis scares me more than Mitchell does."

I think Mitchell is the idiot. This isn't favorable talk. He's going to "talk" himself right out of an NFL job.

ESPN and CNN who keep interviewing him and giving him a platform instead of giving us something interesting to read.

Obviously he'll get another shot should the Eagles cut him.

My point is the attention is doing nothing for him football wise.

This is unlikely.

It would take some pretty nasty words from a guys mouth to talk himself out of the league. Even then I bet someone gives him a chance, even if he is mediocre.
What Mitchell says is just dumb stuff, not really insulting to anyone.

Look at the heat Reggie White took for his so-called racist remarks, and he still had work even after he was pretty much washed up. Wife beaters, drug users, and assholes like Romanowski can always get roster spots, I think I guy who says dumb stuff would too.

Exactly and Freddie is well aware of how the game is played and is doing a great job at it. The media loves sound bytes. Shaq was a media darling here because he said some dumbass things and new phrases. Mitchell will always be in the media, whether as a member of a football team or an entertainer

Right, there's no middle ground.

My only argument is that Freddie Mitchell, six weeks ago, was basically JJ Stokes (the similarities are obvious). To which the collective nation replies: who? And who quickly settles comfortably into hyped-receiver-never-made-much-of-himself-and-out-of-the-league status.

There's an old saying - "there's no such thing as bad publicity." You're right, people are talking about what an idiot he is, and that's not so good on its surface. But people are talking about him. Mitchell might well have been headed for a quiet, scrap-heap minsal deal with Jacksonville anyway without stirring things up -- now he's at least got people talking about him. I don't know if it will work out for him in the long run... but for some no-talent clown like him to basically be more or less the most talked-about guy in football for a couple of weeks -- it's a little weird.

Someone, amidst all this hullaballoo about his controversial statements, might actually pop in a tape of his catch on 4th-and-26 and decide he's worth a few bucks. Beats me.

I guess what I fail to grasp is the positive in this. Many people rail against this type of self promotion - some of which is from guys who actually have something to promote.

Perhaps he gained himself his 15 minutes but I view it as just that. In fact I'd argue he's narrowed his chances in some respect within football. Maybe if he is to transcend sport I guess he's the man but I can cite dozens of examples where this behavior is crucified.

Again I just find it odd the support on the "pro Freddie side". Maybe he'll cut an album...dunno.

I agree, he's achieved his aim if he wanted to be on the minds of sports fans but it's a futile effort in my opinion. One only attempted by someone who knows they don't have the talent.

I guess I'd just say: I agree he's a jerk, but I don't necessarily agree that unflattering attention is such a bad thing for a guy so generally unworthy of any attention at all.

I don't think we're all that far apart.

I guess. I'd hope though that football people can see through that. I mean if it was as simple as making a fool of yourself we'd have all kinds of sucess stories running around.

Perhaps I give the football people too much credit.

Can he catch? The Seahawks could use a receiver that can catch...I'd rather have a big mouth and soft hands, than a real nice guy who can't catch a cold.

He can catch about as well as the 5th round draft pick the Eagles will probably replace him with.

Straight from the Jose Canseco school on how to make an irrelevant jerk standout in the relevant world.

I continue to find it amusing that a safety had more catches in the Super Bowl than Freddie Mitchell and a linebacker had more TD catches than him.

Kind of like Ty Law having more catches than Marvin Harrison @ last years AFC Championship game?
