Ping: Paul Westerberg Fans, Funny Video
I don't know how many Replacements/Westerberg fans frequent the boards but he kicked off his tour last night in Vancouver. Now, he's always had problems mumbling and stumbling through live shows but last night was one of the funniest occurences of it i've ever seen. He starts doing Crackle & Drag, which is a song based on a Sylvia Plath poem and is quite frankly a very morbid tune. Anyhoo, he forgets the words about 2 lines in and then it all just goes to hell.

I am pretty sure Michael Bland is playing drums for him again on this tour. I was supposed to get help getting Keane tickets from Michael's drum tech, but they left before the transaction could take place.

If you've ever heard the old bootleg Mats live album When the Shit Hits the Fans you'll know this is pretty much the norm for Westerberg. On that album the band was stinking drunk and couldn't play more than a verse of any song. They also did a bunch of "medleys" where they'd do a line from one song, degenerate into a line of another, degenerate into another, etc. It goes on and on like this throughout the whole album. The title is pretty appropriate. I thought Paul had dried out years ago, guess I was wrong.

Well, those were the "good old days", he's been sober since the early 90's but has just started drinking again "mildly". He appeared on the Late Late Show Monday and it was very Replacementsesque. http://paulspage.me3.com/video/pwlatelateshow.wmv |

Tommy Keane, the band Keane or someone else named Keane? If it's Tommy Keane i'd be interested to know why he isn't touring with them this time around, Bland and Boquist are awesome Keane on guitar would really add to the band. |

Ooops sorry, the band Keane. Michael Bland's drum tech has some connections with The Quest Club in Minneapolis. Since Michael does a lot of work at my studio, I wanted to get help finding some tickets to a sold out show. But, Michael and his tech were out on the road with Paul at that time. That is all.

That wasn't Paul Westerberg. It was the Unabomber singing with Abdullah the Butcher on drums.

Yeah, that's Michael on drums. Very large. He broke an $800 spider chair at the studio. Got all excited and jumped up, sat back down. Funny. Yet, for all his mass, he gets behind the kit and is one of the quickest guys you will ever see play. I love watching him. He was in the New Power Generation (Prince).
