Well, Lil John has taken it to a wholly different place. Yeah, Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Biggie, etc. were profane and glorified a culture of violence, but at least they had talent and infectious beats. This guy has no talent, and his beats aren't really even that catchy. As far as I can tell, his *only* appeal is shock value.

Don't you mean "Straight Outta Locash?"

I think I'll make a rap using no words other than Ho, Bitch, Nigga, Nine, & Dead.

I like rap, but haven't been able to listen to anything new since the whole "Gangsta" element came into it. Run-DMC, Whodini, Eric B... That was it to me, then I just couldn't get into anything after about '88. The last rap album I really enjoyed was Pain In Full...

That was a really, really good album. If you like that, I'd recommend "The 18th Letter." It is a "comeback" album that Rakim did in around '99 or so. It very much hearkens back to the heyday of Run-DMC, Whodini, etc. Definitely no gangsta element in it, either.

I think it is a misprint/misunderstood lyric. "Nap Town" is Indianapolis. I'm guessing that's what he meant.

here's some real hip-hop you all should listen to.

Quote:
(Are you not entertained?)
(Are..you..not..entertained?)
(Is this not why you're here?)
Uh, Uh, Huh
Turn the music up
Turn me down
Guru...Lets go get 'em again
This time it's for the money my nigga
Brooklyn stand up

[Verse One]
There's never been a nigga this good for this long
This hood
Or this pop is hot
Or this strong
With so many different flows
This ones for this song
The next one i'll switch up
This one will get bit up
These fucks
To lazy to make up shit
They crazy
They don't...paint pictures
They just trace me
You know what
Soon they forget who they plucked
They whole style from
And try to reverse the outcome
I'm like...CLUCK
I'm not a biter
I'm a writter
For myself and others
I say a B.I.G. verse i'm only biggin up my brother
Biggin up my borough
I'm big enough to do it
I'm that therough
Plus i know my own flow is foolish
So the rings and things you sing about
Bring em out
It's hard to yell when the bar-rel's in your mouth
I'm in...New sneakers
Deuce seaters
A few Diva's
What more can i tell you
Let me spell it for you
W-I-Double L-I-E
Nobody truer than H-O-V
And i'm back for more
New Yorks ambassador
Prime Minister back to finish my business up

[Chorus: Singing]
What more can i say?
What more can i do?
I give this all to you
I know this much is true
My Life
(Look at my life)
(See what i see)

[Verse Two]
You already know what i'm about
Flyin birds down south
Movin wet off the step
Purple Rain in the drought
Stuntin on hoes
Brushin off my shirt
But ain't nothin on my clothes
'Cept my chain
My name
Young H-O
Pitch the yea faithful
Even if they patrol i make payroll
Benz paid for
Friends they roll
Private jets down to Turks and Kayko's
Chrys case loads
I don't give a shit
Nigga one life to live i can't let a day go
Bye
Without me being fly
Fresh to death
Head to toe until the day i rest
And i don't wear jerseys i'm thirty plus
Give me a crisp pair of jeans nigga button ups
S dots on my feet
Makes my cycle complete
What more can i say Guru play the beat

We gonna let this ride into the hook
I'mma snap my fingers on this one
What more can i say to you?
Get my grown man on
LET'S GO
(What more can i say?)

[Verse Three]
Now you know ass is willie
When they got you in a mag
For like half a billi
And your ass ain't Lilly
White
That mean that shit you write must be illy
Either that or your flow is silly
It's both
I don't mean to boast
But damn if i don't brag
Them crackers gonna act like i ain't on they ads
The Martha Stewart
That's far from Jewish
Far from a Harvard student
Just had the balls to do it
And no i'm not through with it
In fact i'm just previewin it
This ain't the show i'm just EQ'in it
One, Two and i won't stop abusin it
To gropie girls stop false accusin it
Back to the music
The mayback roof is translucent
Niggas got a problem Houston
What up B
They can't shut up me
Shut down I
Not even P.E.
I'mma ride
God forgive me for my brash deivery
But i remember vivily
What these streets did to me
So picture me
Lettin these clowns nit pick at me
Paint me like a pickiny
I will literally
Kiss Tee-Tee in the forhead
Tell her please forgive me
Then squeeze until your forhead
I'm not the one to score points off
In fact
I got a joint to knock your points off
Young
Hova the God nigga blast for me
I'm at the Trump International
Ask for me
I ain't never scared
I'm everywhere
You ain't never there
Nigga why would i ever care
Pound for pound i'm the best to ever come around here
Excluding nobody
Look what i embody
The soul of a hustler i really ran the street
I CEO's mine
That marketing plan was me
And no i ain't get shot up a whole bunch of times
Or make up shit in a whole bunch of lines
And i ain't animated, like say a, Busta Rhymes
But the real shit you get when you bust down my lines
Add that to the fact i went plat a bunch of times
Times that by my influence
On pop culutre
I supposed to be number one on everybodys list
We'll see what happens when i no longer exist
Fuck this

(What more can i say?)

I think it hit the pinnacle for me personally with Dr. Dre's The Chronic. I was brand new to Los Angeles when that was still popular and I was just like the dude in Office Space. Blasting it until somebody could hear me then I would roll up the windows and mouth to myself..."rollin down the street smokin endo sippin on gin and juice laid back with my mind on my money and my money on my mind" then when the people were gone, I would go gansta and roll the window back down.

Apparently I've aged since then.

I have to agree that Straight outta Compton is a good album, and that my rap days dissapeared with the last good Public Enemy album.

Big John
Big John

Every mornning at the mine, you could see him arrive.
He stood 6 foot 6, weighed 245.
Kind of broad at the shoulders, narrow at the hip.
And everybody knew you didn't give no lip to Big John.

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone.
He didn't say much, kind of quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you'd just said hi to Big John.
Somebody said he came from New Orleans,
Where he got into a fight over a Cajun Queen.
And a crash and a blow from a huge right hand,
sent a Lousiana fella to the promise land.

Big John
Big John
Big bad John
Big John

Then came the day at the bottom of the mine,
when a timber cracked and men started crying.
Minors were praying, and hearts beat fast
and everybody thought they had breathed thier last
cept' John.
Through the dust and the smoke of this man made hell,
walked a giant of a man that the minors knew well.
Grabbed a sagging timber and gave out with a groan,
and like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone, Big John

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

And with all of his strength, he gave a mighty shove.
Then a minor yelled out, 'theres a light up above!'.
And 20 men scrambled from a 'would be' grave
now theres only one left down there to save, Big John.
With jacks and timbers, they started back down,
then came that rumble way down in the ground.
And as smoke and gas smelched out of that mine,
everybody knew it was the end of the line, for Big John.

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

Now they never re-opend that wortheless pit,
they just placed a marble stand in front of it.
These few words are written on that stand,
'At the bottom of this mine, lies one Hell of a man, Big John'

Big John
Big John
Big Bad John
Big John.

Lil Jon is horrifically annoying. I understand the appeal after the first song comes out, then MAYBE the second one. But when he's in the background screaming in 1/2 the rap songs played on commercial radio, then I cannot understand how people love someone that has become a caricature of themselves in a matter of minutes.

I wanna send this one out to all the jeep lovers worldwide
city to city, ghetto to ghetto
some flavor for you and yours
and your jeep

you're the type of girl that got class and style
still in all you need the backseat of my jeep once in a while
so I pull up to your door to give you what you're looking for
unh, hardcore
I know you wanna come...in my jeep
we can park on a back street
you're checkin' out my carphone, scopin' out my jewelry
let's do this in a hurry
air freshener is kickin', drive through for chicken
I know you need a good stickin'
that's when I see my man Snoop
peace, what up kid? loungin' duke
as I turn the corner, starin' in your cornier
you're gettin' hornier and hornier
I'm pumpin' up a blint tape (flavor)
you're legs is incredible, I do a double take
you're puttin' on your lipstick
I wanna give you this big fat...(yeeeaaa)
quick, I know a place where we can lounge and cool, don't sleep
(where at?) back seat of my jeep

[Chorus]
back seat of my jeep, let's swing an episode
back seat of my jeep, let's swing an episode
back seat of my jeep, let's swing an episode
back seat of my jeep, let's swing an ep'

I'm pullin' over near your building
I light a candle on the dashboard, we're chillin'
I knew a girl like you would love a scene like this
you got class but deep down you're real freakish
you got it all, but you never had a wild episode
that's when me and my jeep showed
up with the funk in the trunk and
hittin' it, we're spunkin'
I'll even get you drunk and tipsy
'cause I know you're feelin' frisky
you love it 'cause it's wild and risky
you got your eyes on the hood
you're up to no good
I took you in the back, you hoped I would
you got your black on black so stacked in the back
while I'm pumpin' in the CD I'll skip a track
windows are foggy
and, uh, back seat treats in the streets could be a hobby
and you ain't in between the Isley Brothers' sheets
I give it to you real raw in the backseat
that's how you want it, don't ya? (yeah)
you'll tell your girlfriends, won't ya? (nah)
don't lie
take it in your eye (why?)
so buckle up, buckle up
what's my name? what's my name? what's my name? what's my name? huh
I never knew a four wheel drive could be so live
I'll put your numbers in the archives
so take 'em off, and put them things on the mirror girl
it's my jeep and your world
you got it going on lovely, time to do the right thing
'cause I can tell you wanna swing

[Chorus]

we're bonin' on the dark blocks
wearin' out the shocks, wettin' up the dashboard clock
seats full of sweat, I told ya I would hit it
your kitty, kitty, cat, cat, was hungry so I fed it
workin' as a team
somebody, anybody (scream)
jump with me to the cash bar
I'll be like Bruce Lee in them skins goin' "waahhh"
damn, it's so good, the mad grip on my tip
you're still a nice girl but my jeep makes ya flip
you go wild and stick your toes on the roof (yeah yeah)
you're so cute, wit' your gold tooth
exstentions on the carpet
that nice round brown is my target
it's so firm, so cushy, it makes me feel mushy
I love it when it's pushy
but don't laugh, I'm serious with this (word up)
the back seat of my jeep, is priceless
you're climaxin', you're climaxin', it's full action
you love a good waxin', it's so relaxin'

unh, give me a hug
see what I'm sayin' love?

[Chorus]

What I commend is that he'll get people to buy this even though all his verse is just repeating himself. It's almost as if he's so uncreative at times.

Give me old school...Gangstar, DeLaSoul, Tribe, EPMD. Oh, and the ATL used to rule with Outkast and Luda, but Lil Jon is just killing me.

1. That was clearly a joke.
2. The way you hang onto my every word is a little disconcerting and feels almost stalker-ish. This is the second or third time in recent memory that a little silly side comment of mine that I didn't even remember was remembered by you. Kind of scary.

Like how you view nearly every comment I make on an internet forum of a bunch of guys (and gals) bullshitting in a negative and spiteful light? Lighten up, Francis, it's all a silly game.

Execellent. I thought it was impossible, but I can now put even LESS stock in any opinion he gives.

Chris Rock has a whole skit about that from Never Scared and it's hilarious.

As for the song. look, I can find you lots of music that glorifies all kinds of crap that isn't all that appealing or that is just downright vulgar. Is it as popular or as mainstream of the self-proclaimed "King of Crunk?" No, it 's not.

But it seems to me that people often use hip-hop as a proxy for "see, that's what wrong with those colored people over there." And I dunno, I tend to think that we blow it all out of proportion.

I think Lil' Jon gets way too much airplay. But somebody thinks he's appealing, maybe because they like scaring the hell out of people by putting someone like him on the map. I dunno.

But I don't 10 years from now, we'll still be talking about him. Like, don't expect him to cross-over like say, an Ice Cube or Queen Latifah..or even Snoop Dogg..into movies and such.
