Convert .mov to .mp3 ?

Okay, time to play "how the heck do I do this", work-related version.

I needed the audio track from a TV spot, for possible use with a radio version of the same script.

The dingleberry creative director passed along the file, unfortunately, it's in .mov format. Well, I at least managed to play them so I know the audio is there. But I don't need them as a .mov file, I need it as an .mp3. Is there some freeware out there that would handle this, specifically some freeware that's idiot-proof enough for me to be able to install & perform the conversion without a learning curve of any great stress? I say freeware because, company related or not, I don't really want to spend money on something that's essentially a one-time need, for limited use.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Did you know that many, if not most, radio spots exist primarily as .mp3 files these days? I haven't actually used a physical media copy of a radio spot in over two years ... which is a looooooong way from the old days of reel-to-reel tapes, or even CD's.

Try www.videohelp.com, they've got how-to guides for just about any video/audio conversion. Hopefully that'll come up with something.

If you can find someone with a copy of Cool Edit there is a feature that extracts audio from video. Cool Edit comes with a lot of audio equipment, so its pretty easy to find.

If you have no answers by Monday let me know and maybe I can do it over email.

Back when I was in radio (got out in about 97) we had a computer system for all our spots and they were all wav files.
