I was just about to start an Oscars thread. I rarely watch the Oscars, but find myself watching this year mainly because I'm a huge Chris Rock fan and want to see him host the show. Anyone else watching primarily because of Chris Rock?

I'm a huge Rock fan, but the jokes aren't quite jokey enough. they just sound like insults.

Ok, to each his own, hopefully any of the hot actresses lose their dress and take it a step further and do some porn on stage. Crossing my fingers!

Well, i think it's pretty true as well. But it's going to make for an awkard night, and probably no invitation to host again. It's a night of celebrating Hollywood. A lot of people with poor senses of humor will take offense, i'm sure.

I thought they did border on insulting, but I thought they were very funny. I think the audience was cold because there was that tension there. They laughed hardest when he made jokes at his own expense.

Shrek 2 and the Incredibles were both outstanding movies. Tough that they came out in the same year and had to go head to head.

Not sure, but you surely get the Oscar for most misspellings & gramm-errors in a single sentence. The throne is o'erthrown!

I don't know how she's a "A-list" actor. She can barely talk with her eyes open and look normal (well, for an actress-good/hot).

I like Rock, and I'm watching to see what he says.

Since he makes fun of himself too, you'd think people would laugh more about other people... but nope. Some of these guys need to get a sense of humour.

I don't get the whole let's having singing at the Oscars thing. Just give yet awards and get on with the after parties.

It just seems so haugty to me. The whole event. Seems Hollywood takes themselves so seriously.

I think it adds a little something to the evening. Unlike the acting categories, it's the only thing that can be easily displayed to audience. I like it, personally.

I don't really like Beyonce. But, I think whoever made her up today, did a pretty good job. She looks "classy" rather than the normal overdone, trashy thing I see her at other awards shows.

Is Pierce Brosnan gonna keel over onstage?
OMG, maybe i'm overthinking things, but when Pierce handed the chick the award and stepped to the side he looked down as if he didn't wanna walk into the cartoon lady, I almost choked from laughing.

One thing my wife noticed: the "in" look for actresses this year seems to be fair (almost pale) skin. Johanssen, Zellweger, Barrymore, Blanchette, Dunst - all looked quite fair (add Kidman to that probably, though I haven't seen her yet). This seems to amuse my wife (who is a redhead with very fair skin).

Seems that the general look is trending to the 40's to me as well.
