rumor: Leinart thinking about declaring for supplemental draft?

1. It's Peter King
2. Pete Carroll denies there is any basis to this, but it's still interesting to consider

I would be very happy if he did - as a 49er fan. But as you mentioned- its the Peter " I wish I knew as much as DR Z about football" King - I doubt it.

According to Peter King, Jake Plummer will be MVP this year. Just like last year. And the year before that.

I've talked to a friend who stayed in Los Angeles after graduation and is a fairly bug supporter of the football team (he is a neurosurgeon who can afford to be a big booster) and he seems to think there is some substance to these rumors. Of course, we both hope they end up being false.

What kind of money would he be getting if he chose this option? I can't see it being anywhere near the amount as in the regular draft, but I have shockingly been wrong before.

Well if someone took him in the supplemental draft, they'd be forfeiting their 1st round pick in 2006, so I'm sure Leinhart would demand 1st round money at the position they picked him (so if it was the 49ers, it'd be 1st round, 1st pick money).

He'd get virtually the same amount as he would had he been selected #1 overall in the regular draft since he's the consensus #1 pick in this years draft had he of delcared... and should be next year as long as he doesn't bomb or get injured.

Did Leinart play the "I want to stay in school" card because he was having shoulder surgery and would miss the combine, and perhaps fall out of the top 5?

While he may be the consensual #1 pick, I believe he would also be a statutory #1 pick, which could land the 49ers in Jail.

Leinhart would have been a good pick, but Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith also are good picks.
I certainly hope the Niners pick one of these QBs.

A franchise STARTS with a franchise QB. And I don't buy what the so-called "analysts" say, both Rodgers and Smith have the looks of franchise QBs.

I don't think so. I think he truly wanted to make history with 3 national championships (I know the first one was split) but I think he realizes the chances are lower with Chow gone. I suspect that is why he is considering going pro.

I wonder if Leinert is re-thinking his decision because USC just put Fresno State on next year's schedule.

Noop, you must be high. There is no way that USC's farts could beat Fresno State.

As for Leinart, I think he will stay and I don't think that losing Chow will effect USC at all next year. They have too many studs coming back that have already run the system and the assistant that they promoted is supposed to be great. I think that over a longer period of time, the offense may suffer somehat because of Chow's absence, but I think next year will be like the Cowboys superbowl year with Switzer at the helm.

I am not high. I think USC has more talent in their farts then the entire Frenso State Football team.

Don't start, Noop. I might have to call in the Oklahoma Brigade and they'll explain to you what a badass Jason White is and how they're going to beat USC.
