Best Buy Ad with XP Home for $40?

Does anyone else's Best Buy ad have XP Home for $40 with a mail-in rebate? I just read on-line that Best Buy said there is no rebate and they will not honor the price, even if you bring in an ad. How is this legal?

Legally, they're not obligated to honor ads with typos, but you could try. They're running that ad in my area, too.

I don't know if that could be considered a typo. A typo would be advertising something for 10.00 when it's supposed to be 100.

Yeah, it shows on page 8 in the bottom right hand corner.

It says save $60
39.99 after Instant Savings & Mail-In Rebate
Reg Price $99.99- $10 Instant Savings = $89.99 - $50 Mail-In Rebate = $39.99

Not really a typo. They just say there is no MIR. I just called here and they said they have no rebate, nor will there be one.

Same ad here. There are too many "mistakes" for it to be a typo. They also haven't "fixed it" on the website version of their weekly ad.

The thread about this on Fat Wallet now has people saying they're getting the rebate form printed out at the register.

Best Buy is known for their bait-and-switch.

Are you sure about that - in the UK, if you advertise it at a price you sell it at that price typo or not (there have been several cases where a company has mis-priced something and ended up giving away bargains).

yep. Our catalogs are chock full of errors every month, but we usually don't honor them.

This (I believe) is how it is for the price displayed in the store..

but for sale ads, all they have to do is post a correction in the store (entry way, customer service, wherever) and they do not have to honor the ad...
