Digger just hung himself with the same rope that Ron Pawlus did.

HA! Digger's such a homer. I could just imagine ND being below .500 for the season and Digger still saying that they deserve a 8 seed.

Holy Cross though a Patriot League team was 24 -5 during the season. But for ND to loss at home wow! Go Crusaders!

Anyone who watched ND lose to us (Rutgers) a week ago - when their entire season was on the line - wouldn't be surprised by a loss like this. I feel like more often than not, when a team who was on the bubble ends up in the NIT, they lose an early round game due to a general lack of caring about this tournament.
There are plenty who say the NIT means nothing. Maybe they're right, but I feel like it depends on the team. For instance, last year Rutgers was solidly on the bubble during the last couple weeks of the season. Then we proceeded to self-destruct, losing a game to Va Tech in Big East play, and then another to VT in the tournery, among others. That put us in the NIT, but instead of mailing it in, our boys got excited for the chance to get back to The Garden. We reeled off enough victories to make it to the finals before losing to Michigan, but ask anybody who went to those games and they'll tell you how important those games were. Just because we weren't playing for a NCAA title didn't mean it wasn't necessary to give full effort and represent the school to the best ability. I'm graduating in 2 months, and one of my greatest memories will be attending the NIT semis and final game with all my buddies in NYC. Sure, it wasn't the pinnacle of college sports, but watching our boys play hard, and seeing them accomplish something, was very important. |

Who says teams shouldn't care about playing in the NIT? For some schools, it's a big deal. For others, like ND, it's probably a bummer. Tough shit...deal and play hard or go home. You play to win the game, regardless of what tournament it's in.
This year's bracket buster at my mid-major school (we were .500 vs a team 4 games under .500) had an intense atmosphere like that of a postseason game. Granted it's part of the regular season, but it was a break from the pressures of conference games, yet our guys played hard, the crowd was intense, and we won a big game in overtime. This game wasn't as important as our conference games, yet our guys stepped up and won a big game for our school. 1-0 in Bracket Buster games ![]() |
