FM Question

Does anyone know if I choose the option to load players from a league, if that league will regenerate players as well? In other words does the option just allow you to have the players at the start of the game or does the option allow to have the players at the start of the game and players will be created from those nations in the future?

GE,

I have no idea, but doesn't this question really belong in the "I HATE FM2005" Thread?

I'd like to jump in here with a more generic question.

What is this "regen" thing about? I'm assuming that this is the jargon for the method by which youth players are created by the game to keep the game world populated with players. Why is it called "regen" is my next question. Does that mean there is no randomness and players that retire are simply immediately and directly regenerated as youth players, with perhaps only things such as nationalities being scrambled?

And wouldn't, at some level, the game have to generate players for every nation for World Cup qualifying? I understand GE's question as it relates to being able to manage a national team from a nation for which you aren't simming a league.

if i understand correctly every player has an id#

when player retires that id# is given to a "regen"

the regen may look nothing like the orginal in terms of ratings for each skill

the total of the skills will be similar though

Here's a good explanation of how regen worked in previous versions

Regens appear after a player is retired. The regen is an exact copy of the player who retired (and where he's the regen from) Only his name will be different. So basically regens have the same potential, nationality, position etc.

The stats of the regen will at the start will not be the same as the stats of the retired player. This is because the regen still has to increase his ability. If the regen has the same current ability as the retired player they will look (almost) similar

So if Alan Shearer retired, then somewhere would be a new youth player who had the potential to be Alan Shearer (with a different name)

FM05 changed that... but Marc will have to help on that

You are correct, FM 2005 is alittle differnet. I can't remember what it was, but I like the new way better. It's alittle more "random". I wonder if each country is a certain number of "quality players" to produce (good enough to play international and mid-to-top leagues), and if it changes at all? A rating perheps, that change slightly based on success of international teams. Say, if Nigeria plays well in the World Cup, they may get an extra or two "quality" players generated in the upcoming year.

I think that it has been changed so that the player's ability is regenerated, but his position, nationality, name etc. are not strictly limited to the same as the original.

So to take the Shearer example; the regenerated Shearer wouldn't necessarily be a striker and wouldn't necessarily be English either, but has the potential to be as good as Shearer one day. That is the only real connection.

That is correct. Does the game produced a certain of players of "skill" each year? What determines the amount of strikers, goalkeepers, ect. each year?

i think there are X number of stud players

when when of those retires another will be created

there are alot of players with ranged potential so 1 generation will be great another not so great, there are also factors that will determine how good they become.

In older versions of CM, you could keep track of regens by giving them a nickname (this was a option that could be chosen on the player page). When the player retired, the regen would have the same nickname. It was a terrible way to cheat

Now it's all changed with FM and you have to actually work to find the good regens.

I love the new regen model. It's very real-life, maintains a talent level but you never know where that new stud will be (a speedy winger, a hard-tackling centerback), or wheather he'll be French, Australian or Moroccan.

With CM2, you could shortlist players and find the regen on the shortlist...

I wish it was like that, but I would guess that it doesn't work that way. It would be awesome if going on great World Cup runs would increase the talent level and the number of players coming out of that nation.

Is their a way to get the FM 5.05 patch from someone else via e-mail, and then download it to my computer to install? I got the game, and want the patch, but I have a 56k phone line that ties up (the phone line), and it takes several hours to do.

sundancer, the file is 68 meg. I don't have an email server that I can send such a large attachment... And it will still take you hours to download.

Is it worth downloading right now? I just am going to play around, learn, get a few for it while I wait for the laptop in a few weeks (when I'll download the patch, and go in-depth, and get serious (reviewing every move, player, ect. like the dynasties of the FM series in the other forum, and become a zombie for weeks like Eaglesfan27 and FrogMan have )?

Does the 5.0.5 have everything included when you download (does it include all the fixes and that from the previous patches as well)?

yes, 5.0.5 includes all the other fixes. I went from vanilla wwsm2k5 to 5.0.5 with the 68meg patch...

it won't matter with or without the patch, you will come to the darkside and be a zombie.

I'll be starting a new career in Italy today with the new patch. I've been playing as Exeter in the English Conference, but I had way too many leagues running (leagues that I would probably never manage in), so I'm going to start over. I can't start over in England again, though, because I feel too attached to the Exeter team I had tried to build up. I'll try to manage a few seasons in Italy and see if I can work my way over to England or maybe I'll get up from Serie C to Serie A someday! Woo!
