Key block delivered by TUC 64 Clinton.
Extra point by TUC 12 Sampson was good.
Looking at Peek's stats, it turns out he got a carry last year, too, and I didn't notice. It also was in a third down situation in the 5-WR formation. Peek starts at LT, and Clinton (who got the KRB) starts at RT.

Looking around the league, there's another LT who got three carries last year, and also a LT who had 8 catches for 118 yards and a TD in last week's game. Unfortunately, I haven't been saving game logs or box scores from games other than mine, so I can't do a more careful examination.

Finally, there are also a handful of CB's and OLB's who have been targeted for one pass. I'm thinking those are from fake punts.

Thoughts? Comments?

I'd say everything but the 8 catches and a TD you could explain with scenarios (fumbles, blah blah). But the 8 catches and a TD for an offensive lineman is kinda weird.

I noticed this over the holidays when I saw Willie Roaf scored on a goalline play.

My guess is that perhaps your skill position players were a little fatigued, which led to using your starting tackle to take a play at receiver or as a back (which would explain the rushing and receiving).

It's a little far fetched, that's for certain. I have seen it done in high school and collegiate levels, though.

I do wish you could get an announcement as they do in games.

"Number 62 has checked in as an eligible receiver."

That would be interesting.

It could explain the receiving, but not the rushing. Remember, both of Peek's carries came out of the 5-WR set.

I need to figure out how to get this guy the ball more often, apparently. LT Peek has two career carries for 16 yards and a TD.

Is it possible that you have the 5th reciever listed as "Any Wide Receiver" under personnel and only 4 wideouts on your roster?

Not just the 8 catches, but the fact that he was a target 14 times. Talk about spreading the ball around.

What happened to the vaunted 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense? Now you're running trick plays and your offensive tackle is your primary goto guy.

Even if there's some quirk that occasionally puts an OT onto the field in some sort of RB/WR/TE position, eligible to catch passes... it's hard to imagine any circumstance where an OL should have 14 passes thrown his way. He should be utterly devoid of all the skills necessary to indicate "yes, this is the guy to throw the ball to."

I'm hoping it's some sort of mis-labeling, instead -- that maybe there's another player getting these passes, and it's just being mis-identified. That would make a lot more sense.

After some quick research through career stats in my current 50 year career.

58 carries by a tackle.
1 by a guard.

The most career carries for a tackle was 7, all others were just 1 or 2.

I don't see any instances of a tackle or guard ever catching or being targeted on a pass play in this career. That's a good sign that it's just something odd that happened in that one game.

Perhaps James Vanderbeek was his QB.
