Andrew Bogut All American

Link

Andrew Bogut was the leading vote-getter for the AP All American Team this year.

Seriously if this guy goes pro isnt he just replacing Cherokee Parks as the tall weird looking white guys who stinks as a pro in the NBA?

The kid can pass....he can move.....

He honestly has to work on his strength, but that will come in time..

He will be good in the NBA.

Hasn't this been said about 1 or 2 guys every year since about 1988?

I'm sorry, Andrew Bogut should be stripped of his prize immediately. After all it is the AP All American Team.. and the goit's an Aussie!

I'm amused that only two of the players on the first team are actually still playing.

He's a heckuva lot better than Parks ever was.

Parks, during his Senior year, averaged 19 PPG and 9 RPG with 1.4 blocks and 1.5 assists.

Bogut, in his Sophmore year, averaged 20 PPG, 12 RPG, 2 blocks and 2.4 assists.

So my guess is that he will, at the very least, be a servicable NBA center. No one ever thought Parks would be.

Without disputing your contention that Bogut >> Parks, it is worth noting that Bogut played Mountain West teams and Parks played in the ACC. The calibre of competition might have been a tad different.

Shawn I think. Ya he is a great tall weird looking white guy who stinks as a pro in the NBA. Sadly I forgot about him.

Easily could have a thread on funny looking people in the NBA. It certainly wouldnt have to be just white people, hellllllllooooooooo Sam Cassell

Sadly enough, the last 2 (Shawn and now Bogut) are coming out of Utah colleges.

At least Rafa looks mean....(oh, and he is Brazilian, I think)

I saw too much of Bogut last week, and the kid can play. He looked like an amazing passer, had very good low post moves, and hit at least a couple of threes on us.

I think he'll have a very nice pro career...

The fact is that he will get picked by the Hawks.

As a result, he will stink and the Hawks will continue to suck.

Maybe you're right and maybe you're wrong.

This guy seems to be much more aware and fluid than parks. Parks was known as a stiff even back in college. In a way, he reminds me of a poor-man's Tim Duncan - not that he'll be anywhere near the play Duncan is.

I've seen a comparison to Arvydas Sabonis, probably because of his passing.

There is no sure thing, but from what I've seen I think he will make a very good pro player. He has all the tools and is strong in the post (someone thinks he needs to get stronger, and more strength couldn't help, but he already has superior strength to most of the other post men his age).

I don't see the big guys out east as much (except the ACC which plays a lot of games on FSN) but from what I've seen he'd be near the top of my draft board.

Stick Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Darko Milicic, Frederic Weis, Robert Swift in the Mountain West Conference and they'd probably average 20 and 12 too. Watching his 2nd round game the announcers were ridiculous. Paraprashing - "Well, he's 1-6 from the field, has like 5 rebounds and a block, but 3 assists and HIS MERE PRESENCE IS WINNING THE GAME FOR UTAH!!!!" or "X misses an 18-footer. I really think he was blinded by the halo above Bogut's head there."

Somebody will pick him in the lottery, and he will have a journeyman career. If he's picked over Chris Paul or Marvin Williams I will laugh my ass off. Probably some HS'ers better prospects too.

How many of these guys went on to play some in the NBA or overseas?

Right now, I don't see anyone else from the Ute Squad going on much further other than Bogut. But then again, I am not an NBA scout.

I've seen Bogut play twice on T.V. From what i saw, he moves EXTEREMLY well for a 7 footer, he looks much stronger then Yao already, he can shoot from anywhere and he's an excellent passer for a big man. Now im in noway a basketball expert, but he impressed me. I think writing him off just cause he's big and white is a mistake.

I am not informed enough to state it, but it seems very rare that a team would go 30-1 or whatever Illinois is and not get a 1st team All-American. Have the other runaway #1 team's like UNLV, Loyola Marymount, Duke, etc. not been represented in this award?

Runaway #1 team Loyola Marymount? Huh?

Back when they were good in the late eighties I don't think they ever got past the mid-teens (if that high)...

Larry Johnson was definitely All American at UNLV.

Laettner, Bobby Hurley, G. Hill at Duke(im sure more).

Emeka Okafur of UCONN was last year.

Mateen Cleaves at Michigan State was as well I believe.

He's going to be a Top 3 pick, most people think number 1. He can pass, rebound, shoot. This is as close to Sabonis in his prime as we've ever seen.

He averaged 14.8 points and 8.8 rebounds in the Olympics. The guy can play. He went for 11 and 8 against the United States, when he was matched up against Tim Duncan, and he's only improved since then.

Tracking the All-American discussion, while Illinois didn't have a first-teamer, they did have two second-teamers and one third-teamer... Not too shabby a performance, if you ask me.

I'm an Aussie so I may be slightly biased… but let's also remember Bogut tore up the u/21s Internationals. He won't be a star in the NBA, but I think he'll be good for double-figure scoring and near double-figure rebounding as a pro.

But then, who really cares, the NBA is a god-awful boring league. I hope he stinks it up in the NBA and is lured back to Australia by an AU$80,000 contract to play in our pro league over here…

Cool, good to see that he's contributing to a very good team. I wish we had been able to keep him around longer than one season, but I don't blame him for trying to escape the tyranical rle of former coach Jason Rabadoodoo...

I'd like to see Bogut become a Hornet. Hopefully, he'll still be around when the Hornets pick.
