Spring Time Reading List (History)

Due to lack of time with Nursing School and future wife, I mean G.F. I haven't really have time for any recreational reading lately but finally have this spring break. These books have been read over the course of a year:

Combat Jump : Ed Rugguerro Is about 82d ABN DIV and it's jump into Sicily. I've just finished it and I think it's a great book and teaching material on small unit leadership as well as a good and easy read.

The March Up: by I think Ed Smith, The book chronicles the Marines March into Baghdad in 2003. It's a straight forward narrative of the authors experience with a Marine Rifle Battalion during the ground campaign, though I feel is a little conservative and biased. Which maybe due to the author being a former Marine Corps General.

Im starting on Alex Kershaw's The Bedford Boys this weekend. It will probably take time before I finish it but I'll give a review of it in a week or 2.

Combat Jump sounds alot like CURRAHEE by Donald R. Burgett. Michigan native that writes about enlisting into the 82nd, going to bootcamp to include running up the famed hill and going on to jumping into France during DDay. One of the most memorable books I've ever read and very easy reading also.

Drill Sgt. to recruit "How long is a string?'

Recruit: "I don't know?"

Drill Sgt. "Dummy huh? Give me 25! (pushups)"

Drill Sgt. to next guy "How long is a string?"

Next guy: "Twice as long as half of it?"

Drill Sgt. "Smartass huh? Give me 50!"

I enjoyed Curahee also. It was a pretty easy read and quite enjoyable. Really read like a novel.
