You know the kind I mean. The look-up-and-it's-4:00 a.m. games, where your leg muscles have atrophied because you've been cemented into your computer chair for God-knows how long.
1. Heroes of Might & Magic III 2. Imperialism II 3. Civ II P.S. No RTS allowed. This is strictly a turn-based phenomenon.

cm3 (I think 01-02) did that for me. Twice I can remember being up until 6am, and seeing the sun come up when I had to be at work in 3 hours.
CounterStrike did it for a while. |

In college, my roommates would play Heroes until the sun came up...literally. I believe it was the second one mainly. They would all drink and play Heroes while I tried to sleep, unfortunately it was my computer though. I'll go along with Heroes and Civ as being the most addictive. I also used to play a game back in the day called Capitalization (I think)...pretty addictive. |

I agree with everything else said. My list also includes Zangband. Although that's more of a "just one more level down" or even worse, "just one more character" game.

Civ series, most definitely. I'll also toss out:
Wing Commander (if "just one more mission" counts)

Civ and CM easily top this list for me, both of them had me missing my bedtime for weeks at a time. I'm not sure why RTS doesn't count, so I guess I'll have to leave Starcraft and Warcraft III off the list and leave my list at 2

To me there's a difference between continually playing a game (like and RTS, or a FPS, or even TCY, which I love but would not put into this category) and the specific "one-more-turn" syndrome. But no biggie.

Civ Series (#1 was the one that kept me and others at DLI glued to the screen)
The SimTex games (Master of Magic, Master of Orion) CM/FM (CM 01/02 and FM2005) Front Page Sports Football (94-95 timeframe) X-COM UFO Defense (many people in the barracks were racing to finish this game first. How could you not love a game with the blaster launcher )I am sure there are plenty from the C64 days too. I used to play the original Silent Hunter, Red Storm Rising, F-19, and Superstar Ice Hockey. Dan Bunten's Modem Wars was another I really liked. Unfortunately I never got a chance to play M.U.L.E. There is a clone of MULE called Space Horse that is sold by Shrapnel Games and supposed to be a faithful reproduction. I just placed an order. Wow, how could I forget Starflight (The best scifi rpg ever) and Wasteland? I must be getting senile. Last edited by vyshka : 03-30-2005 at 04:30 PM. |

I wish I could be different, but I'll go along with the masses and nominate Civ (Civ 2, in my case, as I never played the later ones.).
FOF is certainly addictive, but it just has too many natural cut-off points, whereas in Civ there was always SOMETHING that would happen in just a few turns. |

Another game for my list would have been MegaWars III on Compuserve, but when the bill arrived after my 1st month of playing (7th grade time frame) I lost my Compuserve privileges.

FM2005
FOF in that order best explained by weinstein7: Quote:
FOF, you can stop when you get to the offseason... Right now, FM2005, while it's not keeping me awake all night (I've grown up a bit and with 2 kids, I just can't do that anymore, besides the wife would keel me if I ever thought about doing that, even more so since our computer is in our bedroom), it is certainly pushing my bed time a bit later than what it used to be before I got that game. And I've been playing a little every evening since I got it in mid-november, which in this time is pretty amazing to say about just any game... FM

And I'm reinstalling Civ2. So there ![]() Though as a slight follow-up to Civ2, I find that it's always hard to get rei-mmersed in a game of Civ. That's part of why I play so much in one sitting. Once I get up from it, and try to re-load, it just feels like every other game of Civ I've ever played, and I often don't really have the interest to finish it.
