Eye dilation
I got my eyes dilated so for my LASEK referral and I can't see shit. I had to make my computer's resolution 800x600 so I can actually see something to work. Good news is that I'm eligible for LASEK, LASIK, or PRK and may get the operation as soon as April 11th.
This is a very trippy feeling. |

This is so weird. I got my eyes dilated this morning and have been feeling weird all day. It sucks.
I wish I could get laser eye surgery -- but with my vision being as bad as it is, they don't think it would have a permanent effect. Lucky you. |

Bravo Franklinnoble, bravo.
And enjoy the LAS*K or whatever you end up getting to correct the eyesight, I hope I can get that done someday as well. |

PRK is Photorefractive Keratectomy. They scrape away the epithelium and zap your eye with a laser reducing the cornea so you can see without glasses. The epithelium grows back in about a month.
LASIK is Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis. They cut a flap of epithelium and zap your eye like in PRK. The flap is then put back and heals. Much faster and a bigger wow factor. It takes about a week to recover. LASEK is Laser Subepithelial Keratectomy. They scrape a flap of epithelium (vs. cutting it like in LASIK) and zap your eye. The flap is put back and heals. About a month to recover. There are various pros and cons to each one of these procedures...also, depending on what conditions you may have (myopia vs. hyperopia, dry eyes, keloids, etc.). hxxp://www.surgicaleyes.com is a good website for further information. |

I hear that you shouldn't be looking at a computer screen when your pupils are dilated. A few months ago, I foolishly went back to work (I also foolishly drove back to work), only to find that I could not read a damn thing on my monitor. A coworker cheerfully pointed out that I could be doing damage, since the eye has no way to filter out the light coming from the screen at that point. Not sure if that is actually true, but I went on my merry way (wearing sunglasses at night, since the dilation was still a bit much for me to take)...

My opthamologist knew I was going back to work (using a computer) and just said it'll be blurry for a while but didn't caution me not to. Then again, my prescription's -13, so it can't get much worse...

Man. I hope that isn't true. I have been putting dialating drops in my left eye for the last two weeks because I have iritis (swelling of the iris, very painful). My left has been dialated for the entire time... And pretty much all I have been doing is reading docs off a computer screen.

My wife is having her LAS*K surgery next Friday. She is downright giddy.

Does anyone else think it's weird that you can SEE this entire procedure being done to you. For crying out loud, it's your EYE! You can't run from a laser pointed at your eye.
