Several minutes ago, Bill Self indicated that freshman Alex Galindo was thinking about transferring out of the program. As it stands right now, no decision has been made, but it does appear that Galindo is looking to find another school, closer to home, for next year.

"I was notified this morning by a radio station that there was a rumor concerning Alex Galindo (transferring) and they asked me if there was any truth to the rumor," Bill Self said. "The fact of the matter is Alex and I have visited about this and we are going to come to a definite answer when I get back from the Final Four.

"There is certainly a possibility that he could transfer and there is also a possibility that he could stay," he added. "He has been very open and upfront. We'll have an announcement one way or another early next week."

Should Alex Galindo actually decide to transfer at the end of the semester, a scholarship would become available for another player from the class of 2005.

"Coach and I have met a couple of times since the season ended," Alex Galindo said. "We plan on meeting again once he gets back from the Final Four. There is still a lot of stuff to think about and talk about when he gets from St. Louis."

While the Kansas coaching staff is interested in a number of players, DeAndre Thomas would likely be the favorite to fill the open spot.

"I will be taking an official visit to Kansas a week after the Final Four," Thomas said. "I talked to the Kansas coaching staff and that date works great for the both of us. Kansas is definitely my leader at this time and they will be extremely tough to beat.

"Illinois, Florida State and Georgetown are the other schools I am considering right now," he added. "Once my visit to Kansas is complete, I will make a decision about what schools to visit after that. I will say that Kansas is the team to beat right now."

A 6-7 guard from Newark, N.J., Galindo played in 22 games last season with one start at Colorado on January 15. The Puerto Rico born Galindo averaged 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 10.4 minutes per contest.

Galindo scored a career-high 14 points against Wisconsin-Milwaukee and made clutch three-point field goals for KU in victories against Georgia Tech and Texas A&M.

"I enjoyed my freshman year," Galindo said. "It had its ups and downs, but overall it was a learning experience. I wish Kansas and its fans nothing but success.

More important to Rutgers fans should be the fact that I've heard they'll be getting Fred Hill Jr. as an associate coach. This guy was responsible for Villinova'a great recruiting classes the past few years and the Seton Hall class of Barrett, Griffen, etc. Reading a bunch of different message boards (Villanova, Rutgers, SHU) it seems like he'll leave 'Nova for Rutgers if he's guarenteed the HC job when Waters leaves.

I really hope that this isn't true or that it prompts Seton Hall to fire Orr and hire Hill. He's probably the best recruiter and the east coast and to let him go to Rutgers will probably be one of the biggest mistakes SHU could make. Rutgers will rule NJ basketball for years to come if this happens.

It should be mentioned that he has serious ties to Rutgers, considering his dad has been head baseball coach for a long time. Giving him all the credit for Shoes and the Cats great recruiting classes is not fair. He probably helped but it comes down to the head coach when all is said and done.

I'm with Logan on the fact that he might not start here, but I definitely think he would contribute. Of the freshmen we have coming in, the only one on the same level as him is Inman.

I think you're right...it's Florida International. I knew it was Florida something.

As a Kansas fan, I hate to see Galindo leave because he's got such a sweet stroke that resembles a rainbow. That's one of the nicest shots I've seen in a while. The problem is he just doesn't have the foot speed on defense to guard a wing. He was probably going to have to play as an under-sized power forward for Kansas with Kansas' abundance of wings. He is a 'tweener and is thus a mis-match for whatever position he plays. Of course, that mis-match works both ways until he can improve his speed or strength. I would not be surprised if he averages 10-16 ppg during his college career.

I'm with Logan on the fact that he might not start here, but I definitely think he would contribute. Of the freshmen we have coming in, the only one on the same level as him is Inman.

But remember, he would have to sit out year. By the time he's able to play, Inman and Griffin (who I feel might be the hidden star in this class) will be getting serious minutes, and Webb will still be around (and hopefully playing the 3 if Farmer can run the point), so how many minutes are there to go around? Ideally Inman will play the 4, but it's too early to tell if he will be able to defend at that position. And since we will surely always have undersized centers, it's pretty likely we will need the extra size in Bailey/Gibson to stick at the 4, which would make Inman get the majority of the minutes at 3.

I'm not disagreeing that he would contribute in 12-15 minutes a game. But is that enough for 1) Galindo to want to come here, since he is really on his last shot and 2) (more importantly) RU to give him one of their (reportedly) very few available scholarships that could be better used on a kid from the talented 2006 class? I'd answer no to both.

Hill Departs Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Fred Hill has resigned as Villanova's associate head coach, it was announced today by head coach Jay Wright.

Hill was one of Wright's first coaching hires, joining the staff in April of 2001. He spent two seasons as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in September of 2003.

"As with everyone in our basketball family, we are always pleased when someone gets a great opportunity," stated Wright. "Freddie has an outstanding opportunity in front of him and, although it is not our place to announce it, we are supportive of his decision. We'll miss Freddie but are very happy for him."

Business is picking up in New Jersey.

Well I know he won't come back to SHU as an assistant because he was pissed off at the way Fogelson and Orr treated him after Amaker left.

The only thing I find really odd is that supposedly, Rutgers is going to let Hill be the successor to Waters no matter what. This basically means Waters will have a guy working under him who knows he's next in line for the job.

Also on a interesting personal side note, Hill is from my hometown, and I went to many of his basketball camps as a child, so I wish him a lot of luck. Also, if he is eventually named head basketball coach at Rutgers, he will be the second person from me relatively small town (pop. 15,000) to hold the position. You may remember Kevin Bannon from a few years ago, whose antics got him into some trouble. The two are actually two of only six men to ever score 1,000 points at my high school.
