Need help with Pc games
I am trying to remember this game. It came out at least a year ago maybe more. the only thing I can remember about it, was that it was set in the middle ages, and you could try to control your destiny. You played the game through generations of your family. Thats about all I got. I believe that several of our members owned this game. Any ideas on what it was called?

Europa 1400.
Not bad, but annoyingly buggy. And available in a value pack with some other crap now. |

Its real shame too, if Jo Wood had taken the time to work out the bugs that game would have been a masterpiece.

Is that anything like Crusader Kings? That's what I thought he was thinking of. Same game with different title maybe?

I'm now off trying to find the Europa 1400 disks so I can fire it up again. As far as I remember it all worked ok til you made enough money that you wanted to start building new businesses, then it wouldn't let you build anything.
Looking on jowood's website there's mention of a Europa 1400 sequel for later this year. Hopefully not a German-only release. All this and a cookie too, it's my lucky day. |

Crusader Kings is a totally different game. However, that was the first thing that came to my mind as well when reading the description.

No, Crusader Kings is different. Europa 1400 you play a single person in a medieval European city. Best description I can think of is a 14th century Sims, but with more of a business basis. You need to learn a trade to survive, build things, make money, get involved in local politics, and find a wife so you can produce the kids to carry on the dynasty.

Interesting game. Played it for a couple months when it came out. This game takes alot of patience to enjoy it. I could never get elected to any kind of council position, but it sure was fun watching the election thinking you had a chance.

Yeah, very interesting in the early stages. Unfortunately when you got further into it, it all kind of fell apart.
You'd build up a nice blacksmiths business that was turning over a good profit and that was when you should have been branching out, moving into other lines of business, building new buildings to rent out, getting involved in local politics. Unfortunately building new buildings didn't work most of the time, you'd get stuck with the outline of the builiding to choose where to position it but nothing would happen. You also couldn't hire a manager to take care of your original business cos they'd turn a huge profit into a whopping loss. They could never quite work out that they needed to buy supplies, so you'd be stuck micromanaging everything, which meant no real time to mess about with the council. Pity, it was an original idea and pretty addictive to start off with. If you did get elected into a council position it went pretty well. Had to start picking your friends and enemies, a few bribes and dinner parties to get ahead. |
