Shot-Online (Golf MMORPG) Beta

http://shot-online.com/

Played 18 holes last night and really like it. Its along the lines of Tiger Woods Golf, where you gain experience and allocate your XP points and you win money that you can use for green fees, clubs, clothes, food, etc.

Maybe we can get some FOFC'ers into this and then we can conduct a tourney or two Id be glad to help anyone out, if needed. Its follows the fairly standard golf game construct, you click the ball to start your swing, click it again to stop the power meter, then you click again for accuracy (or hook). You can add spin etc, like any other golf game. You arent good to start out with of course, its a RPG.

my username name is chinaski for Shot-Online, make sure put me in as your referrer on signup!

Apparently I'm better at putting from 20 yards out than I am from 10 yards. I also can't hit anything with the irons. It is too weak of a shot such that the ball falls short of the target or too strong that it bounces over it.

Well.....hows this...

I haven't played anything to truly excersise my graphic card for a while.

I start playing the game, and the damn thing is overheating....I look, and my fan isn't working....dang....now I have an excuse to upgrade the card (Although I shouldn't have too)

the moving highlights on the green grid: The faster they move, the higher degree of angle. The direction they move indicates the direction of the slope. Practice figuring out slope by reading the highlights only, if they aint moving, its basically a dead in putt.

If you want to bring up the green grid lines at anytime (for like chip shots so you can tell how the green looks), use Alt-G.

for all the new players, using the tab key to setup all of your shots is critical. Also, when allocating points, ignore the endurance/stamina stat completely. You can sit on a bench or drink a power drink to regain stamina at anytime, so the fatigue stat is pretty useless right now.

really fast, you should get to lvl 8 by the end of your first 18 holes.

I just made level 14, but I play with lower level people all the time. The beginner course is pretty easy, so it remains competitive for most all lvl's & handicaps.

Level 8 by the end of the first round? I'm level 5 after 2 rounds. Of course I play alone. Is there really that much of a bonus playing with others?

You can set the shot timelimit to 60, 45, 30 and 15 seconds. So it would at maximum take 60sec a hole per player, but in reality people take about 20 seconds to setup and take their shot. I played 18 holes with a 4 some last night in about 35-40 minutes. Seems like most people prefer a 45 second counter, and im rarely bored waiting for my turn to shoot.

Match play and skin play of course go much faster.

Yea actually, you do get a bonus for playing with better people. So if you get a bogey and some lvl20 with a -1 hdcp gets a bogey with you on the same hole, you might get some exp. I dont know 100% how it works, but its along those lines.

Winning match play holes and skins also gives you XP.

A 100% putt on a flat green is around 20yds. I have not seen a putt miss because it is moving too fast, so anything under 3yds can be hit straight and fairly hard.

I think a full SW hits about 47yds off of the fairway? You can play the precentages from there. The toughest shots are the 9yd chips off of the fairway. The swing meter moves to quickly for any kind of accuracy.

The other big tip seems to be to hit short on all approach shots and try to use backspin. The green never seems to hold and everything rolls a lot. I'm guessing that will be better when we get to higher levels and our backspin becomes more effective.
