TCY: worth the purchase?
Hi all,
I am a pretty avid fan of text based sports sims, I play OOTP and alot of FBCB. With all the talk of the draft I have been getting interested in college football and you guys know how it goes, you want to play a game of the sport that is in season or almost in season. TCY is the only college football sim ive been able to find, and since I dont have any experience with it or alot of experience with FOF I was hoping some of you could provide me with your overall opinions of the game and if it is worth the buy. A couple of questions i have about it: are there any updates or patches since the game's release in 2001? Are there any plans for a sequel? thanks for your help |

If you want to play a college football sim than its the best option.
I think very highly of it and recommand it(since you already said you like sports text sims) I think recruiting is something some people have a problem with. Its a non issue with me i like the way its done. |

Jim usually updates the game for free prior to each season to update schedules and conference changes. Quote:
Jim is historically tight-lipped on his current development plans, but given his numerous recent updates to the FOF franchise and a strong hint that a baseball sim is not his current focus, it's a pretty good bet that he'll produce another TCY soon. In a general answer to your question, I enjoyed the game a great deal. With as much as I've played it and as big a fan as I am of college football, I have numerous things I'd like to see implemented or improved, but in all I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the game. If you can find a copy of the TCY Helper utility that was written by Fido, that will improve your enjoyment of the game IMO. It's also worth noting that Grey Dog has announced plans to release a college football text sim of their own, so you'll want to keep that one on your radar as well. |

Go get it. It is a great value for its price and many of us are still playing, several years after its initial release.

The things TCY Helper does that I like:
- You can input your general time allocation preferences based on the player's position, intelligence scores and whether he's got a girlfriend and get a page that displays what settings you should have for all players on your roster; - You can do fairly detailed searches of recruiting prospects; - It provides a nice way of sorting assistant coaches and scouts to make it much quicker to find a good replacement It's too bad some of these features aren't build into TCY, and you'll have to run both programs at the same time, but it saved me a fair amount of gaming time once I started using it. |

A couple more questions on TCY:
Is there a spring game included in the game? Is it easy to get a good feel for what your team is gonna be like in the off season? Can freshmen players make an impact? How much control do you have at the tactical on the field level? Do you feel as though your game strategy decisions can alter the outcome of games? (ie can you put together a good game plan on sub par talent and pull an occasional upset?) Can you export draft classes to FOF? Also anything else you think is important or of interest about TCY please post if you have the time and inclination. I am trying to get a feel for what its like in relation to the other games I play (FBCB and OOTP) |

No spring game. Special freshman can make an impact, but like IRL not many. The gameplan you formulate is carried out very well on the field. You can pull off an occasional upset but it is occasional at best this will happen. Draft classes can be exported. |

Go ahead and get TCY. Great game.
I really even doubt a more modern Grey Dog college football game will surpass it in quality/fun. |

Don't forget about the demo. Download it and give it a try. You can't make it through a whole season, but it will give you an idea of what the game is like.
