Any New England area soccer fans want to help out?

Hey, I'm just Copying and Pasting from the announcement made by the leader of the Rev's supporter's club.. but it would be nice to see some of you guys there, and it's for a good cause

As the New England Revolution embark on (we hope) a championship run, Revolution supporters will have their own chance at claiming a share of League honors in 2005.

Major League Soccer (MLS), in conjunction with ESPN, is sponsoring a contest (that will coincide with the network's nationally televised games this year) to see which MLS club has the most passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated supporters. MLS has chosen one ESPN televised home game for each League club (except Colorado, but they found a way to make it work there as well) where such efforts will be judged.

The game where Revolution supporters will be judged is the May 14th, 4:00PM match against defending MLS Cup Champions DC United. We understand that ESPN will be featuring prominent shots of the Revolution supporters section (i.e., The Fort), and assign a video crew to film pre-match tailgating and other supporters efforts.

The goal of this contest is to help boost attendance, encourage greater atmosphere, and make the game look better on TV. However, this contest has also been set-up to lend a helping hand to supporter's groups in each MLS market.

MLS has asked each club to offer discounted tickets to their respective supporters groups, who in turn will sell those tickets at face value to fans for that one televised match. The difference per-ticket ($3 as declared by MLS), may then be held onto by the supporter's groups, which may be used as seed money for trips, gear, etc. Again, this is $3 for every ticket sold.

The tickets that are for sale are general admission, sections 140-143 (behind the north goal). We are asking those of you who might be interested to please feel free to join us in the Fort, as we stand and sing in support of the Revolution. This is not a requirement, as only section 143 is a standing section. The remaining sections that are available through this deal are not standing sections, you may sit wherever you would like. As another request, we are asking Revolution fans to please wear blue on game day... we want to create the best atmosphere we can for the Revs.

The Midnight Riders Board has met to discuss this, and have decided that not only will we participate, but we'll also pass along some added incentives to purchase these tickets. Rather than holding onto the $3 from each ticket sold, the Riders will donate half of that ($1.50) to the March of Dimes. The Riders have been active in philanthropic efforts over the years, and we are pleased to find another way to help out. In addition, the Riders will select (at random) one person who buys their tickets for this match through us, to receive a 2004 away (white) replica kit signed by Clint Dempsey, and generously provided by Craig Tornberg, General Manager for the New England Revolution.

The winning supporters group will be judged by the total number of tickets sold, but we must sell at least 300 tickets in order to qualify for consideration. If we can sell over 400 tickets, MLS will donate to us a signed ball and jersey from the All-Star game this year which we can use for charity purposes. The winning supporters group will have a party hosted in their city at the end of the season by MLS and the local MLS team.

The Revolution have offered to help us in this effort.

This is a great chance to get more people to come out to watch our beloved Revs play, and it should be a great match up. It's also a chance to win a free league sponsored party, a chance to come to a soccer match and donate money to the March of Dimes at the same time, and for one lucky person, a chance to walk away with a Clint Dempsey signed jersey.

We are asking people to please pass the word on this. Tell your co-workers, notify your local soccer programs; anyone really ... but let's win this contest and let's make as big a donation as we can to the March of Dimes, and let's show to the rest of MLS that we are passionate and dedicated about our team.

Tickets can be purchased for $15 each through the Midnight Riders immediately. Please email us at [email protected] if you're interested in this offer, or if you have any questions. You can use the attached flier as well to order your tickets.

Sincerely,

Monty Rodrigues
President
Midnight Riders

Nobody's happy. Peter was as close to the fans as any GM in any sport I can think of. I would not be surprised to see some sort of protest through the entire season. And maybe even next season once we move to "the House Peter Wilt Built."
